Should put hood pins in?? *pic*

I just got some hood pins off ebay from Custom Maxima and am debating on whether or not I should install them. The carbon fiber hood is from VIS and latches better than the stock hood.

Here's a picture:

everyone says to use them. i know that my hood seemed extremely locked in and sturdy, but I went ahead and had them put in.

any time to share your thoughts on this hood you have and its weight ?

I have hood pins on my CF Hood. When you are driving high speeds (excess of 60mph) the side of the hood flaps and shake a lot. Take a spin at about 80mph and it looks like the hood is going to fall off. Trust me, it's better to be safe than sorry.

i've had 3 carbon fiber hoods on my car now.. all 3 times the hood was latched firmly with the stock latch and it still flipped up... don't waste the time in waiting for it to come unlatched and flip up, it's not fun trust me.

Most CF hood I seen, the latch is attached to fiberglass. Material of different type have a hard time staying together. ie. Fiberglass and metal. Overtime, it will split.

How about installing a locking hood pin. THey are more low profile compared to the regular ones. When i do order my C/F hood, I'll be getting these too!!
Here is a picture from the summit catalog.

The Mr.Gasket ones are the exact ones I got. There really not that big compared to regular hood pins.
I didnt want to go with the regular Ring type. These seem like the will sit alot more flush and the metal circular base is the same size as other hood pins.
My CF hood should be in tomorrow(hopefully) and I will install it then and can post pics if ya want.

Also, what do you guys use to hold your CF hood open since you cant use the hood struts anymore???

blubyu2k2,
I will post pics tomorrow. I managed to get the hood on tonight but havent put in my pins. Had some issues with the hood fitting. The hood latch was on backwards. I still got to try and play with it and see if I can even out the gaps.

slammed95,
CF tube huh,....hook me up with one then

DONT GET THE HOOD LOCKS. Get pins. The design of those hood locks is such that you cannot use them on a hood that is at all slanted like ours is. If you really want to try to make the hood locks work I can sell you my set.

FLAVOR247...are you talking about the CF latch being on backwards? Let us know what modifications you did to the CF hood to line up perfect.

Those hood locks wont work, you'll see what we mean when you try to install them. Don't go drilling a hole in your hood before you realize they wont work, I almost did that and just as I was about to start drilling I realized they wouldn't work.

I used composite hockey stick shaft to hold my hood open when I had my CF hood.

since we are on the subject of whether or not to put on hood pins: If i were to get these things, what would be the cheapest place to get these hood pins?

Summit racing. Most of them are less than $15. I would look for ones that are made out of aluminum and not chromed steel. The chrome tends to chip off and they will start to rust.
