Damn Maxima....
Hey, I was going to search for this, since I'm positive it's a re-post but the search function is disabled, so don't flame me for it. For about 6 months my car has been starting like crap. Sometimes it'll start fine, others it won't. Finally one morning it would start at all. Took it to the Nissan place and they replaced the knock sensor I think. Still started crappy, took it back. They had it for about 5 hours and couldn't find anything wrong. The car will turn over then everything will die, then it will fire. Sometimes it'll fire then shut back off unless I press the throttle. The alternator is good, the battery is good. Had to replace the O2 sensor about a month ago since it was flooding out. I've finally come to the conclusion that it's either a dirty throttle body, clogged injectors, or a bad starter? Those sound like reasonable assumptions? Thanks in advance for the help, it'd be nice to get in my car w/o worrying about it starting or not.
Forgot to mention: hybrid intake from frankencar and a warpspeed y-pipe. Started acting funny after these two mods.

it'll turn over, then the lights and all will go out for a split second then while still in the same key turn, it'll all come back on and fire....
That's really odd. Could be something with the ignition or the wiring in the steering column. I don't know too much about these cars, but I have had other car get a wire pinched in the steering column due to the tilt and it will cause lots of problems.

Now that you mention it, when we changed the gauges (biggest mistake EVER) from the SE gauges to the stinking indiglo's we did have to take the column down several times to get it all right.
You should clean around the areas around the crankshaft and/or camshaft position sensors. Dust might have accumulated there and will cause starting problems.
Edit: Take your car somewhere else or start reading up because you wasted your money on that knock sensor. That was nowhere near the problem. Just a heads-up

I'm gonna clean the TB Friday night and see how that goes. The car was just tuned up about 30k ago, don't fig it's that. It acts like it isn't getting any fuel half the time, the other times it does it where the car just dies then fires up. It = suckage.

Ya, I'm not even sure they replaced the knock sensor but maybe something else. I can't really remember. The Nissan place charged like $450 for whatever it was. Needless to say, I haven't been back. Typically I get friends to do this stuff for me or I attempt it. Thanks for the heads up though.
