If I were you.......

I'd spray them down with acid and then scrub em with some 40 grit sandpaper. jk

The best way to do it is just some mild soap and water... but pretty much any wheel cleaner can clean that stuff off. Although you have to watch out, cause some of the cleaners will eat through the clear coat on the wheels. That's why mild soap and water is you best bet.

I used to have to clean my front wheels once a week, or they looked like dogsh*t.
After a few months, I got damn tired of it...so I changed my front pads to Carbon Metallics from AutoZone. Oh, man!
Not only does the car stop on a dime and picks it up, I haven't had to clean the dust at all between washing the car. Those pads are the bomb.

You probably have some cheep cheep pads....change them.
Life's too short for brake dust.

the carbon metallics

how much did you paid for the carbon metallic brake pads from autozone? I have these dumbass aftermarket bendix pads and they squeal and the front wheels have so much brake dust. I do have to say the back doesn't look dirty at all...

does anyone know what the ratio is usually? like change your front pads twice before doing the back?

I think I paid $35 for them (wat-a-baagain!)
If you do change the pads, make sure that you have the rotors resurfaced, so that the pads break in properly. If you don't they too will squeal like a pig!

Just clean with what ever you clean your car with. Brake dust is especially bad on front wheels because they provide 80 or 90% of the stopping power. As they wear the dust has to go somewhere, unfortunately it ends up on your wheels. I have a friend who has a Benz and he had some kind of protectant he sprays his wheels with after washing that suppose to protect them from the dust. There is also a cover you can put on the inside of your wheel that keeps the dust off also.

What mike said.

Just use whatever you use to wash you car with.
Some effort may be required.
And this is not just a problem soley for maxima's.
Practically any high performance car is gonna have this prob. Change your pads as suggested (be wary of pads that beat the crap out your rotors) or...
Go back to whatever you used to drive for a sure fix.
