Single G35C/350Z muffler on 2k2/2k3?

I pulled up to an intersection and spotted two G35Coupes in the opposite lanes. When the light turned green, they both took off like they had a friendly competion. The exhaust tone from both of them running to redline was awesome. I know the G35C/350Z had dual exhaust, but is it possible to take one muffler and replace the stock one on the Maxima with it? Would the exhaust sound the same as the G35C/350Z? Am i just dreaming the impossible? I would rather have one of these because I know that they are built much better than most aftermarkets and there is less of a chance of in-cablin droning (Nissan would try and eliminate annoying sounds with their design).

I have no idea whether the exhaust note can be duplicated on a single exhaust as in our 5th gens, but I second your idea. The exhaust note on the G35C (haven't heard 350Z too closely yet) is music to my ears, its lusty deep growl is outstanding. If I could change anything on my Max, it would definitely be rwd, but the exhaust would definitely go dual, with identical exhaust tone as the G35C. Bad-a$$!

I was wondering the same thing. Any input would be cool.

Don't ever get behind a FX35 or 45. They have a wicked exhaust note as well.

I got stuck in traffic behind a FX35. I kept hearing this sweet purr but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Traffic cleared up and the FX35 pulled into the free lane and got on it. It quickly came to my attention exactly where the sound was coming from.

What you gain in a different, more aggressive exhaust note, you'll lose in performance....2k2/3's have variable exhaust muffler stock....

The resonators are different, therefore diff sound...the maxima DOES sound like the infinities, just not as loud....

Infinities have a mean friggin' sound when you jump on the accel....

No, it will not work. The Z muffler is full width of rear bumper, the dual exhaust tips you see come out of either side of the muffler. It is a single muffler so taking it and trying to apply it to a single exhaust exit system would not work. I agree it sounds good, luckily I get to hear it every day.

Its not going to work at all....like Jeep said, the G35C/350Z exhaust is the full length of the rear end. The sound is so very sweet, but its not going to work unless you work some trick custom setup.

You can get the rear section, and have it sawed off and welded in place of the stock muffler. As for the note, it will sound different in that it should be slightly higher in pitch and tone. The reason why they sound so weird is that you are hearing 3 cylinders from each pipe. The full width muffler is actually just a can with each pipe goin thru it, crossing over sides). If it could fit, it wouldnt sound right at all, also youd have to plug one of the holes and run a length of pipe for it to come out in the right location. As for performance gains or losses, you wont see any, Even if it bolted right up. There really isnt a way for our maximas to get that sound. If you like that tone, I suggest a greddy evo. That is the closest our cars can get to the G35c/Z

I said its the CLOSEST thing we can get to. Also, if you just use the rear section, it wont be. The TONE is correct, the VOLUME is not. Read my post next time.

i just think that the frankencar cat-back would b the cloest tone and volume to the G35 coupe sound

Don't run a dual as a single

You will have very high backpressure. Backpressure from a muffler is proportional to exhaust flow velocity squared. True dual exhasust mufflers are typically more restictive than a single exhaust muffler. The advantage is that since it is dual, the velocity is cut in half so the velocity squared is 1/4. This means that duals can be twice as restrictive and still have half of the backpressure compared to a single. They ussually take some of the available restiction on duals and use it for sound tuning. Dual exhaust mufflers run as duals have less backpressure than a single, but a dual exhaust muffler run as a single will have more backpressure than a single exhaust muffler run single.

Your right I compared the sounds of the engines not exhaust during acceleration and my Max sounds very similiar to the 350, but once you throw in the resonation from the exhaust they are different.

The GReddy is loud as hell compared to what? A stock car? The GReddy is actually somewhat quiet compared to most other cars with an aftermarket exhaust. My Eclipse with a GReddy Evo was twice as loud as the Maxima. You will not find any other exhaust that will sound closer to the 350Z.

that 350z sounds is soooo damn nice, I really don't feel like messing with my exhaust though, unless there was some kind of group deal ahha

I wanna give it a custom try though. Maybe I'll be the first one to do it!
