Q about ebay intake

Im thinking about gettin a ebay CAI and a K&N filter to replace the cheap one. In almost all the pics of the intakes there is a black round rubber looking thing in the midpipe. Is this for the air temp sensor?

Hey, what's up?

I have an Ebay CAI and I am very pleased with it. It's basically an Otto Racing CAI. I can give you the Sellers name and you can look it up on Ebay if you want. Maxima.org has a 'How to' page on how to install it. It's under 'shop talk' on the main page. I'm sure that's where you can find out what that piece is for. GL with you CAI. Take it easy.

Some of them have a hole for the air temp sensor, mine didn't. I just wired it to the master brake cylinder lines and it just hangs there.

Probably would be best to drill a hole in the intake if there isn't one already there and install it in a rubber grommet.

Hey, thanks for the link. That was the one I was thinking about getting. Did your midpipe have that black rubber circle, like in that pic? If you can, post some pics of it installed. Thanks in advance.

Yes that is the cold air sensor hole. Yes, use it. If you leave it hanging on the firewall, you are producing the OPPOSITE of the horsepower mode (Cheap piece of carp) also for sale on Ebay. You are telling the computer the air going into the intake is warmer then it really is, and the computer will leans out the gas.

That is not really true.

"This sensor is not directly used to control the engine system."

This is a direct quote from the Nissan FSM regarding the Intake Air Temperature Sensor.

I would like to see some pics too. I havent checked yet but the air temp sensor wire doesnt seem long enough to reach the midpipe. Anyone have problems with that?

Give me about 4-5 hours and I'll have them posted...I have to wait for the sun to come-up...So I have plenty of daylight. I'm not sure if I can get any good pics of the filter but, it is the filter in the picture in the Auction.

The only part I do not like is the plastic adaptor to the MAF. Is there any inexpensive aluminum or a heavier plastic one that does not twist when bolted down? I ground down some washers to fit, but it did not help and looked terrible.

None of them are. ECU weights the signals, some more then others, to control the engine.

i just ordered a CAI a couple days ago and plan on upgrading to a different filter as well. The intake i purchased is supposedly an injen knock off which is better for me since i dont want to do the hassle instalation of the placeracing style. my worst fears is that they send me the wrong intake (place racing style one), oh well only time will tell due date is upcoming wednesday

Thats not true either. Some are used as weight others control.

For instance here from the Nissan FSM:

Throttle Position Sensor.

"This one controls engine operation such as fuel cut"

Crankshaft Position Sensor

"Ignition timing control"

O2 Sensors

"The ECM adjusts the unjection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio"

Etc
