hubcentrics but still vibrating... any ideas

hey i just put 18" MSRs on my ride and had a crazy vibration in the steering wheel over 46mph... we took all four off, rebalanced the wheels, put rings on all four hubs and made sure everything was real tight but I still have a side to side shudder over about 78mph... anyone have any ideas?

It really sounds like a balancing problem, but if that's out of the question then...maybe you need an alignment or the tires aren't worn evenly?

It can be road condition!!

gotta be one of them Hunter machines

most machines can't handle anything over 17" and thus the balancing is off.

wheels and tires were brand new so wear is out of the question and i guess the wheel could be bent but i'm not thinking so... the wheel goes left to right on every road, side roads, main roads, I-95, once i get up near 80.. you can actually see the steering wheel moving... it feels like the wheel is gonna fly off

i'll get an alignment and see what happens

this might be a dumb question, but are U sure the bore size of the hub is the correct size ? Hondas for instance have smaller hub bore sizes and will not fit. same with Toyota wheels. My friend installed a set of free winter Camry wheels on his 99 Galant V6 and he had all kinds of problems cause the wheels where not sitting on the hub correctly. I'll drive down to FL and fix that for ya

if you car is going side to side, back and forth, that's an alignment problem. I had that problem before.

in order for aligment to do something like that, something has to be broken or bent. I do aligments myself on a killer Hunter aligment machine and I yet to drive a car that does what Ammi described. I've done some nasty aligments on body shop cars. Aligment will cause exessive tire wear, and pulls.. tires would have to point out or in BIG time in order for a vibration to happen. Check that the tires are alright, sometimes even a new tire can have a shifted BELT inside it and will cause a vibration. Try rotating the rears to the front ?

Our car is a 66.1mm hub. Most aftermarket wheels have a 73mm centerbore.

Bent wheels or suspension components can manifest themselves like a balancing problem.

I'm starting to wonder if another one of my (stock 17" alloy) wheels is bent... guess only way I could tell is by pulling 'em off and inspecting them closely (and rotating them while I'm at it--a bent rear wheel can cause vibration in the steering wheel, albeit subtle, but it becomes VERY apparant when you rotate them to the front... had this already with 1 wheel)

A must to have hubcentric rings? I've never used them before.
