Question for those of you that "cleaned" their MAF sensor and saw an improvement....
... I just got the torx bit to remove the MAF.. took it off, now how do I clean this thing?
here is a pic someone else took comparing 2 other MAFs.. but just curious, what exactly gets dirty/corroded on this plastic thing that makes a difference?

also how do you clean it? alchohol? WD40?
thanks

i have something similar to that
i just want to know what i should be cleaning? where does dirt form?
clean the connector? or clean the whole plastic thing?
look at the side of it. you will see wires/small metal rods inside a hole. thats what you clean.
here is something that i found that explains how it works. it should help it all make sense to you

a q-tip
sorry, im in a smart @ss mood
I have the one on the pic on the left. I cleaned mine today, but I am not sure I cleaned the right part. I cleaned the slot about a 1/2" from the bottom of the MAF sensor on the left. There is a metal element in there and I cleaned the soot off of it. Not sure if that was the right section, can someone point it out?

that's what i just cleaned..
Q-tip is not thin enough to fit between the metal thing and the walls... i used a long needle and a little piece of cotton dipped in alchohol..
but get this sh-t.. i stuffed the damn cotton thing inside the sensor!!! now i can't pull it out.. i think i got it out and then i flipped the sensor and it either fell back in or it fell out.. i can't find it outside nor can i shake it out of the sensor or see it through the opening... ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am going to cross my fingers and put it back on the car and hope it runs...
damn it

my SES light is always on anyways
because of the faulty Catalytic code.. but i'm willing to bet $ that it's definitely the MAF throwing a code now aswell.. the car is no longer drivable
i shouldn't have messed with it.. the idle is all over the place, goes from 300 to 1,500 then jumps around 600-800, then stalls.. non stop hesitation, I barely drove it around the block.. you floor it from a stop and it just doesn't react at all..
i can't even drive it to autozone to get the SES checked to make sure.. damn it.

i'm normally ok when it comes to working on the car but i was so scared to f-ck up the sensor that i did just that.. lol
are there any differences between 2001 and 2000 MAFs? and are the ones they sell now better than factory? i don't want to have to be without a car again...
does anyone have the part # for the replacement MAF handy?
thanks

Are you sure that's the part #?
I just searched JRnissan dealer inventory online and there is no part with that #. Only ending in AD201 for the entire MAF sensor.
anyone else know the #?

Dave B has them for like 100 bucks shipped. Another local dealer may be able to hook me up too. I just want to make the problem go away, I don't care what it costs, within reason ofcouse.. I barely got my car out of the driveway today..
I just hope it will go back to normal, not just drive with a lack of power like it did before I screwed up the MAF completely..
