Question for those of you that "cleaned" their MAF sensor and saw an improvement....

... I just got the torx bit to remove the MAF.. took it off, now how do I clean this thing?

here is a pic someone else took comparing 2 other MAFs.. but just curious, what exactly gets dirty/corroded on this plastic thing that makes a difference?

also how do you clean it? alchohol? WD40?

thanks

You can get an electronic component spray cleaner that leaves no residue at "radio shack" or other electronic store.

look at the side of it. you will see wires/small metal rods inside a hole. thats what you clean.
here is something that i found that explains how it works. it should help it all make sense to you

I have the one on the pic on the left. I cleaned mine today, but I am not sure I cleaned the right part. I cleaned the slot about a 1/2" from the bottom of the MAF sensor on the left. There is a metal element in there and I cleaned the soot off of it. Not sure if that was the right section, can someone point it out?

yeah
that's what i just cleaned..

Q-tip is not thin enough to fit between the metal thing and the walls... i used a long needle and a little piece of cotton dipped in alchohol..

but get this sh-t.. i stuffed the damn cotton thing inside the sensor!!! now i can't pull it out.. i think i got it out and then i flipped the sensor and it either fell back in or it fell out.. i can't find it outside nor can i shake it out of the sensor or see it through the opening... ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am going to cross my fingers and put it back on the car and hope it runs...

damn it

i would not have used a needle. rubbing a metal needle against the wire could easily damage which is why most have used a q tip and squashed the end of it so it would fit down the side. i could see how the piece of cotton could get stuffed in there because the wire leads up to the connector and im sure there is some space up there. did the ses light pop up when you put it back on and it started hesitating?

my SES light is always on anyways because of the faulty Catalytic code.. but i'm willing to bet $ that it's definitely the MAF throwing a code now aswell..

the car is no longer drivable i shouldn't have messed with it..

the idle is all over the place, goes from 300 to 1,500 then jumps around 600-800, then stalls.. non stop hesitation, I barely drove it around the block.. you floor it from a stop and it just doesn't react at all..

i can't even drive it to autozone to get the SES checked to make sure.. damn it.

Are you sure that's the part #?

I just searched JRnissan dealer inventory online and there is no part with that #. Only ending in AD201 for the entire MAF sensor.

anyone else know the #?

thanks.

Dave B has them for like 100 bucks shipped. Another local dealer may be able to hook me up too. I just want to make the problem go away, I don't care what it costs, within reason ofcouse.. I barely got my car out of the driveway today..
I just hope it will go back to normal, not just drive with a lack of power like it did before I screwed up the MAF completely..
