Hey Guys i Just bought a 96 se and when in reverse while moving the right rear wheel makes sort of a scraping but not really a scraping noise something like 2 metals rubbing together? Anyone have an idea of whats wrong? Thanks!

check your brake pads.. they may be low and the wear indicators on the pad may be rubbing against your rotors. Thats the first thing that comes to mind

After reanalyzing the sound it sounds more like a squealing. But I don’t see how if its my pads it only makes noise when going in reverse?

Its your sincros. They whine when your in reverse, a lot of five speeds do that. Its just cause reverse is such a small gear, no worries though.

Im pretty sure its not the whine your talkign about its more like a squealing and the sound comes from my right rear wheel. My rear breaks do make a rubbing noise under soft braking also. Im just frustrated about the reverse squealing noise. not sure if its when i brake or when i left off the gas.

Had this noise once. Was a stone that got caught in that outer metal covering (not sure of the proper name for it) around the brake rotor. Eventually the stone fell out, but it would only make the noise when reversing.

yeah i have that too coming from the rear and i'm not sure wat it is. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the brakes tho. And in D, it makes a similar noise but it's not one long screech. It's more like screech, pause, screech, pause and then the faster I go the faster that sound alternates.I'm just gonna have my mechanic check it out. Hopefully it's nothing big.
