14.57 for an All Motor VE Auto!!!

Who would have thought it was possible to do this without upgrading your ECU or with variable intake. The weather could have been a lot better, but oh well. I had to make do with what I had. With mid 50s weather, I could have run 14.4s pretty easily. Here is what's posted in the Timeslips thread:

Carlsbad Raceway, California
Sat, 3/20/04
70 degrees
99% humidity
30.08 pressure
1200 feet air density equivalent
Track elevation is 250'

I had 3 runs with Zemulator (300zx ECU with Zemulator ECU tuning software) and 3 runs without. Here are my first 3 runs with Zem installed:

14.68 @ 94.12 w/ 2.23 Left Lane
14.67 @ 94.57 w/ 2.21 Left
14.59 @ 93.48 w/ 2.23 Left

Here are my last 3 runs with stock ECU:

14.67 @ 94.41 w/ 2.27 Left
14.61 @ 92.89 w/ 2.20 Right Lane
14.57 @ 93.68 w/ 2.17 Right Lane

They have issues with the timing system through the traps they said. That is why I was so different between right and left lane in the trap speed.

Here's my new personal best:

RT .644
60' 2.174
330' 6.083
1/8 9.341 @ 74.99
1/4 14.57 @ 93.68

Since I ran the 14.82, I installed a high stall torque converter and ran 205/50R15 DRs instead of my Toyo T1-S 195/45R15. The drag radials helped with my higher stall TC but I had a lesser gearing advantage than before. I also removed my 300zx ECU with Zemulator for this run. So I ran on strictly a stock ECU.

I also bumped my base timing to 27 degrees and ran an octane rating of around 97.

I had my BFG Gforce drag radials set to 18 psi for this last run. I also did a slight burnout to heat them up. Without a burnout, my 60's would be 2.20-2.23s. That was b/c I was chirping them off the line. With the 2.17, I didn't chirp at all.

My basic mods are: (I have a full list on my webpage)

Full intake
Full exhaust
UDP
VB mod
High stall torque converter
205/50R15 BFG DRs
120lbs of weight reduction
Timing set to 27 degrees with 97 octane fuel in tank

Since my 14.82 at this track, the air density went from 500 feet to 1200 feet. So I was about .14 slower than last time I race. And I fixed my low end tuning issues with the Zemulator.

Hey Aaron great stuff. You are an inspiration not only to the 3rd Gen guys but 4th and 5th too.

You have done a lot of work and keep on trying new stuff.

I would like to see what you would do with some 22" slicks. Too bad you weren't closer I would lend them to you.

That is an impressive time for a VE auto, that's for sure.

I use to have Toyo T1-S 195/45R15 tires on my Millenia wheels. Those are 22.0" OD. But I doubt they would have gripped as well as my BFG drag radials did when heated up.

My BFGs are 205/50R15 which is 23.0". The reason I got these was b/c I bracket race in the street class during the season at my local drag strip. I needed DOT tires that still allows me to launch without a chirp. And the BFGs will work fine for that puroses. I REALLY wish they made 22" DOT street slicks, that would have been awesome.

But as soon as I start spraying nitrous, I will use the MT 22" slicks for my record setting stuff. I just really hope there's a way to make them fit on a Millenia wheel. I think you've tried it and it didn't work. Not sure.

You really think I'm an inspiration to 4th and 5th genners? Most SoCal 4th and 5th genners drink Hateraid and they diss me and say... "it's still a POS turd gen." Comments like that motivate me MORE.

I hope to shave a few more tenths all motor by doing a VE 5spd variable intake swap, throttle body spacer, upper intake phenolic spacer, maybe more weight reduction and cams. But who knows how far I will take this all motor thing. I do plan on spraying nitrous one day and follow closely what Jime did with his auto. YOU are one of my inspirations.

Those are solid times. I can just imagine with a little laughing gas though, ouch!

How much better are your average 60' from street tires to bfg's??

Even with the higher stall TC, traction isn't that big of a problem. I would have to guess that I could do 2.25s VERY easily on street tires. I can only chirp them a little bit. With the DRs, I heated them up a little and launched without a single chirp. The VE Auto doesn't have a lot of torque. But it's a very consistant launching car, even on street tires.

Thanks, and this is coming from one of the fastest all motor Maximas in the world. Nice sig BTW. I have a couple videos that I need editing, but I don't have the software. I've always liked your video editing skills.

When is your forum going to be back up? I can't wait to enter my new time to see how I stack up to the fastest Maximas in the world.

Dude, that's awesome!! Those are some killer times. I can't wait to get back to the track this year and hopefully catch up with all you guys that are raising the bar just a little higher each time. I don't care if you are a 3rd gen, you've got my respect.

My estimate is that I shaved .15 in the 60' and 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile. For you, the VQ has more low end lauching power, I would estimate a 4 tenth gain IF you get the same setup as I have. If you go with a regular Protorque TC, then I have no idea how much that will help.

Yeap, considering the air density has the biggest effect on weather. I would have easily ran 3 tenths faster if I could have gotten those killer conditions I got in NC when I ran that 14.83 a long time ago. So yes, 14.27s would have been nice.
