215/50/17 tires for our Maxima?

Are these safe? I haven't found too much in the forum regarding these sizes. Seems they have A LOT more tire selection at this size.

Yes they are perfectly fine. I have them at my car. Youll probably want at least a 225 for the Maxima though, especially if you're a manual tranny. Not enough traction with 215 for me.

215/50/17 tire size

you are right. there are a lot more resonably priced tires in this size. i am considering using this size if i upgrade from my 16 inch tires on my 2k I30. They are much better for all season use. I am wondering how this will affect m ride. I am running 215/55/16 presently

Because this site was down the past two days, I couldn't wait. I needed tires fast because I was riding on donuts. Anyhow, I researched and found Yokohama AVID V4S. Although these are 215/50/17, their specs are almost identical to the Bridgestones that come stock (in terms of size not performance...thankfully). Here's some comparisons:

225/50/17 93V Bridgestone Stock Stinkers
Rotations per mile: 804
Tread Width: 6.7"
Total Diameter: 25.9"
Overall Width: 8.9"
UTQG: 160/A/A

215/50/17 93V Yokohama V4S
Rotations per mile: 809 (close enough)
Tread Width: 7.2" (more!)
Total Diameter: 25.7" (less than 1/4 inch difference)
Overall Width: 8.6"
UTQG: 500/AA/A

They also have V speed rating, all season and can handle the load. These just came out and are NOT the AVID V4. I've been driving on Michelin Sport A/S which spoiled me. I'll let you know the true comparison soon. However, ON PAPER, the AVID V4S and Michelin Sport A/S are close. The key words: "ON PAPER".

Best part...a set was $435 shipped to my door. Should be getting these today.

BTW, I have a 2000 Max 5 speed with a jet engine...1000 bhp.

If you're rolling on 17", and you have a 5th gen, then your OEM size is 225/50/17. If you have GXE or GLE, then you might get 16" wheels. And to answer OP's question, yes. 215/50/17 is acceptable and good to go.

He is correct . The 02 GLE 7 Spoke rims are 215/55/HR17's. And the tire options are limited even more than the SE's.
