How to install 350Z deadpedal?

Hey folks, just a quick questions for those with a 350Z deadpedal. How did you install it? Did you take it apart and just use the stainless rest or did you cut the black plastic part so it fits where ours goes? Or am I totaly off base hear? Thanks in advance.

Quick update, I ended up using a nice sharp razor balde to cut the plastic down and sanded the edges nice and smooth. Took longer than a saw would have but my saws were at my brothers house. I used coares thread drywall screw to screw it to the floor,1 1/4". Looks Nice, inexpensive mod and covers the awful old one.
