2001 Maxima tire pressure!?!??!

I have a 2001 Maxima and there is no sticker ANYWHERE on the car saying what the optimum tire pressure should be, nor is it in the manual. I just put new tires on it (Max PSI 44) and would like to know what Nissan suggests as an optimum inflation pressure. Much to my suprise and disappointment, even the dealers I called were vague at best and did nothing to inspire confidence. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks,
Mike

32-34 PSI I think. The car isn't going to tell you what PSI to have your tires at, because tires change...

32 should be just fine, some have mentioned to go as high as 36-38. I say bull, I tired that and my tires wore out from the center (overinflated) you'll be just fine with 32.

I have always left it at 44 psi. Well at least when i got them installed at the shop they maxed it at 44 and have kept like that. tires are still good . its been 10000 miles already.. any different opinions as to why it can't be at 44psi and why? its good to know, thats why i ask.

On my 2K2 it's 32 PSI, and the label is located under the arm rest.

44psi sounds a little excessive, although the tires should be able to take it. It will result in very stiff tires (stiffer handling I guess), but probably less traction (thus kinda negating the point of stiff handling)

Did you look at the sidewall of your tires? I always follow that number.

Ammi....sorry to tell you but...that's woefully wrong. The number on the sidewall is always the maximum tire inflation pressure at which it will support the maximum rated load, it has NOTHING to do with the car manufacturer's recommendattion for that particular tire on that particular car.

Nissan says 32lbs for our car, I personally run 33 front and 30 rear as I see no sense in running the same pressure in the rear where the car only has like 37% of the weight

Right or wrong, never had problems w/ my tires blowing or wearing uneven. I stay around between 30 - 35 lbs anyways.

Cold. Or after a short drive to get to the gas station.

Nissan says 32 for our cars, +/- 2 is probably ok. Regardless of the tire, the press is the same (unless you start drastically changing tire size, such as the spare). Do not run at the tire's max, you will have uneven wear in the center as well as poor traction.

When it's cold out, tire pressure drops. When it's hot out, tire pressure increases.

I go 33 front, 29 rear (unless I'm loaded up for a trip or with a bunch of people)....this gives a balanced feel.

Yeah, the 44psi is the tire's max - that means if you put it on a much HEAVIER car it can take the added pressure. You shouldn't go with the max, you should go somewhere in the vicinity (+/- 5psi) of what the car says to (in this case mine says 32/32)....

the 2001 gle book calls for 33psi front, 30psi back 60psi spare and the arm rest inside cover should have the chart u r looking 4. Oh , 3 hour minimum cooling time on tires for proper readings. what the book calls 4.

There's no reason why you cannot run higher pressures in your tire. Seems 35psi was the rule of thumb for many years but since I have low profile tires on the performance side, I typically top them off with 40psi front and rear. I do a lot of interstate miles and prefer the least amount of rolling resistance possible and I reckon 40psi gives me an acceptable safety margin as well. The tires are already stiff anyway and they're not going to give a noticeably softer ride with less pressure.
