more rice... the maxima isn't a race car. CF body panels do nothing but increase the repair costs when you guys smash them into poles.

Thanks Matt! I can understand people doing the whole CF thing if they are going for looks (although I wouldn't do it for that sole purpose), but the Maxima isn't a sports car. A CF trunk lid isn't going to make any difference.

it's not that I can't afford it... it's that there are much easier and cheaper ways to make the car go faster. (namely me slowing down on pizza and beer.).. CF parts look cool and all, but ONLY if they're made right and they fit right. a crap quality hood can be seen from miles away, and anything that we can afford to put on a $3000 car is going to be crap quality.

ahh well.. to each their own.. but don't whine at me when I spend my $1500 on worthwhile mods and blow your doors off next time I see you at the track!

There's a BIG difference between a Porsche 911 turbo and a Maxima.. One is a sports car. one is a 4 door sedan that handles decent.

A CF trunk lid would be expensive as hell if someone made a decent quality one. There's better ways to make your car faster if you are planning on going to a road track or something. Me, personally, I couldn't justify spending money on that for my Maxima when I could put it into my Z, since it's an actual sports car. Don't get me wrong, I love Maximas and have spent lots of money on mine, but I realized things I was trying to do were to basically turn it into a sports car. That's when I decided I might as well just buy an actual sports car for that purpose.

lol I havent seen the trunk lids but for $500 the hood fits really well, not 100% perfect but far better than alot of other hoods Ive seen, your too old school Matt, I know deep down your dying for some led washer nozzles.

only if I can also use 'em for water injection so I can run more boost.

As Shadow said, there's a lot of ways you can lose 30lb for FREE on the car and not have it look all ricey. first would be to rip out the factory carpet and scrape some of the 1" of sound damping material like the carpet padding and the several layers of asphalt glued to the bottom of the car.

ahh well.. I might have to get CF panels anyway.. the roll cage is going to add so much freaking weight to the car it's not even funny.

hmm, something I was thinking though - wouldn't having a carbon fiber hood also make your car considerably safer for front end impacts? I mean, CF= 10x stronger than steel?

I would think it'd be a reasonable excuse... in case someone didn't know why you were spending so much on a hood.. + I got in a front end impact at ~5-10MPH, the other cars bumper was about a foot above mine, so my hood and side fender absorbed all the damage, crumpled like a thin peice of paper. Helped protect the engine bay, but I'm pretty sure steel would absorb alot more damage aluminum or fiber glass, than your engine...
(and my mom always whines about safe cars - so you could be adding to the safty of the passengers in your car :P)

You do realize that while CF is "10X stronger than steel" (your claim), it is also 1000X more brittle (my claim)? So, in a crash where the safety of the passenger matters, the CF hood would probably just shatter into pieces, whereas the steel would bent. I'd take the steel personally. Take a hammer and see for yourself (and don't forget that carbon fiber hoods are generally fiberglass with a little carbon fiber on top for looks).

again, this is one of those things that comes down to personal taste. i don't believe it is any safer than steel if a truck hits the rear. i don't think the would-be buyer of the trunk lid really cares about the safety factor as much as the bling factor.

as far as a group deal for a custom c/f panel, unless the shop is reputable, like cattman, or blehmco, then i'd get five thousand miles away from that thinking.

I beg to differ on BOTH of your claims. But I DO agree with you that I'd rather have steel between me and a potential accident than CF.

And like bonzelite said, it really boils down to personal taste. To each their own..
