California Restrictions???

California Restrictions???

This may have been asked a few times or maybe not at all. I've got a question for all and anyone. I am wondering what restrictions are on the Maximas from California, another thing is what can you do about the restrictions, canan you swap out the ECU and if so how?

i think hes wondering if he can convert his cali spec to a fed spec maybe. and i dont see why you would want to. the ECU is not different in either. cali specs just have the extra O2 sensors i belive.

it's not the ECU that makes CA restriction hard to pass. it's the CA smogging system which specifically enforce on the catalytic convertor that cause most of the problem. if most of your sensors (aka O2 and Knock sensor) are working functionally, and your stock catalytic convertor is well warmed-up before the smog check, you should pass with fly numbers.

FYI 1: my mom's van passed CA inspection with leaky exhaust component.
FYI 2: my max passed with ghost code 0304 CEL (aka safe mode knock sensor) with warpspeed y-pipe with fly numbers.

i wouldn't trip. i would just stay with a good maintace schedule.

You think Cali spec Maximas have it bad or something?

HAHA, that's nothing - talk to the Supra owners and see what they have to say about being robbed of power only because the car had a long and horrible reputation of barely passing emission tests in where else if not California.

I only thing that I was wondering is, in the exhaust on a Cali Max, are there more restrictions?, if so do I need to get a special y-pipe? The only reason I wonder is, because I used to have a 95 and it seemed alot fast to get up and go than my new 97. Thanks.
