Tinting the windshield. Is this true or BS???

Well im about to get my entire car retinted very soon. currently i got 35% 6 year old faded tint and it just doesnt do it for me anymore, u cant even tell its there.

imma gonna do 20% black tint all around including the sunroof and i wanted to tint the windshield 35% or lighter if possible (yes i know cops will **** me up if they catch me, but i dont really give a $hit lol).

So here is the situation. the tint shop said that if i tint the windshield, i am gonna have visibility issues BIG time cuz the lights are gonna reflect differently or some other bs. i told him that i dont have any visibility issue lookin through my windows so how could i have issue if i tint the windshield. he said because the lights are gonna come at me head on and reflect differently (oncomming traffic he meant). i think this is TOTALY BS and he just doesnt want to do it because he is scared of the cops. he prolly thinks that if he does it, ill get pulled over and give his shop address to the cops and they gonna give him a fine for tinting the windshield. thats what i think personally.

so i was wondering if this is true or BS ? and i also wanted to know how many of u have tinted your windshield besides max4speed and what do you think about the results?

the reasons why i want to tint winshield.
1) california heat sux, keeps interior cooler.
2) cars that have tint on all windows except front look gay when u look at them from the front.
3) i think it would look good to tint the windshield as well.

Wait a second - it's illegal to tint your windshield, if would cause visibility issues (the tint expert told you this as well as common sense), and the only reason you want to do it is because it will "look good" and to keep out the sun. I live in Texas, where it gets hotter than it does in California, and no one here tints their windshields. Do you want to hit something in the road at night and **** up your car because you didn't see it? All because you thought actually being able to see where you're going "is gay".

Why don't you try the new 20% on the side and back windows, and see how you like it. That will probably make you happy.

Visibility-wise, i really don't see the problem of having the windshield tinted. In Asia people tint their cars and in fact two of our own had 15% tint throughout. You just get used to it.

However, it's the law in the US so having them is illegal no matter what anybody says.

its pretty risky IMO-just for the soul fact that when it rains, your tint just seems darker and harder to look out of. I would say go with a very low brow (banner strip) but cops are going to rape you when you get nailed.

Don't get your front windshield tinted. Trust me. The lowest I would ever go for the front windshield is 35% tint.

I had 18% all around, even the front windshield. I told the guy to take it off after three days of driving in the night.

I have 20% tint all the way around and was considering tinting my windsheild at one point to 50% or 35%. Here is why I decided against it, it does reflect light differently. I have noticed that with my side windows, it doesnt happen all the time but when it does reflect light it literally blocks whatever it is your trying to look at.
If you dont belive me or the tint shop, that is fine. Just remember that it will be normal 99% of the time, but it will at one point or another its going to catch light at a wrong angle & when it does your not going to be able to see in front of you. Which obviously is not a good thing for both you and any1 in front of you, why create a risk thats not necessary.
I live in Az so its just a "little" hotter down here then in cali. If we could somehow live with it, im sure you'll be just fine w/o tinting your windshield.
It harder to see through the tint at night time, im sure you already know that, but you dont need your visibility to be cut in anyway. Not when other poeple's saftey is at concern.
Its also going to keep more light out, making your current tint seem even darker. Your going to get pulled over for it and be forced to remove it...so why do it to begin with? You know how strict cops are in cali

02se225: Im sure it looks nice, hell id love to do it. Too risky though.

It all depends on your eyesight.. I have 20% all around and 35% on the windshield and it looks so clean. When you are looking from outside of the car it looks dark as hell but from inside the view is clear as anything unless you are blind.

There is NO WAY a cop can give you a ticket for windshield tint because the device they use simply "slides" on the windows and there is no way for them to "slide" it on the windshield.

AS a matter of fact I got pulled over once because the cop "thought" I have dark tints but he couldnt figure out what exactly is so dark.

I would say go for it IF you can find someone to do it.... I have had it done for 2 years now and cannot imagine a day without tints.

he don't need to measure nothing. it's not an issue of how dark, it's a matter of having it there. law stipulates any tint on front windshield. percentage of light through is irrelevant.

Light will be reflected differently because the windshield comes down at a sharp angle, compared to the side windows. you will also see the glue distortion, which is more prominent the steeper the angle of viewing is.

I dont understand why is it not safe? I have had it for 2 years and if the tint guy does a good quality job you cannot tell the difference.

It all comes down to your eyesight PERIOD. Then again there are people on this org who are against HIDs and crap. I guess age matters :0D

My friend has 35% tint, honestly, when I drive his car at night/day it doesn't bother me at all, and thats that I NEED glasses and dont wear them yet... And I can see fine, except when its raining, then im screwed and hate driving his car. Any car even mine thats not tinted, but thats just because of my eyesight.

Its not really safe, I once was driving in a car with tint on the windshield and a person ran across the street at night and you could barely see them.

Let me just guess at the next posts some of these guys who tint their windshild will be making:

- The MAN gave me a ticket for tinted windshields! This is such BS!! I should be able to do anything I want to my car regardless of safety! I'm going to court to fight it! I'll take the tint off for my court date and put it back on after.

- My headlights don't seem to work as well as they used to. Can anyone reccomend an aftermarket bulb upgrade or HID system for me.

- I got into an accident at night, this is such BS! The MAN has laid charges against me, and now my insurance is going up!! I'm going to court to fight it!!

Why the hell would anyone do something that would sacrifice the visibility out the front window? Just to look "cool"? Get some nice rims or stickers or a fart pipe or something.

Oss, there are some factors that weigh in. The kind of tint & quality of the job, ect... could well add. Perhaps it doesnt make a difference on your car im not trying to call you a liar man Im just saying in my car with 20% on all the windows, I can only recall it happening about 4-5 times in the last two years but its happend. The driver side window caught light at a wrong angle and it blocked my veiw out that window while I was trying to make a left turn. Its not the light that comes through the tint that causes this, its light comon from the opposite direction due to the passenger side window being down half way. Btw-I have 20/20 vision

This does however bring up an interesting question, from were would light come in to reflect of the inside of the windsheild? There is far less chance it would happen with the windsheild now that I think about it. The only time youd have to worry about it is if you have ALL your windows down and the sun it at an angle behind you, or if some SUV with bright lights was driving near your blind spot. Once again all your windows would have to be down in order for the windsheild to catch & reflect the light.

Here is the main thing to look at, how often do you (or any1) drive around with all your windows down? Im not saying im going to go ahead and do it now Im just saying there is very little chance for the light to block your vision due to reflection, it does still limit your vision at night...to a certain extent.

some of you are misunderstanding what is going on here.

i simply asked if it WOULD cause VISIBILITY issues. this is why i POSTED here. to LEARN some more and really find out if its SAFE or NOT safe to do. now i dont see how some of you come here and say that i wanna be "Cool" by tinting my windshield and start making fun. i did NOT say "hey guys im going to tint my windshield because of this and that", i came here and said "guyz i want to tint my windshield but i heard this and that about it, what do u think".

I personaly dont think it would cause any visibility issues 99% of the time. in Cali it barely ever rains so that shouldnt be a BIG problem. my biggest concern would be gettin nailed by cops. i did say that i dont care but after thinkin twice about it, i think that if they catch me, they gonna give me a fine big time. and it doesnt matter what % it is. the cop can easily see the tint layer on the windshield and doesnt need to test for %. as long as its there, they can give me a fine, no??? but then again this is what i think "35% is sooo light, u cant even notice that its there, so how could cops catch me??"

look at my current 35% titanium tint. if you think that tint job would affect my visibility then i think u need to check your eyes. and one more thing, a fart pipe might be cool for you but not me

AND YES, TINT DOES EXIST THERE.

While I think it's a bad idea to tint the windshield I would caution you about wearing polarized sun glasses with a tinted windshield as some tints are polarized themselves ....... try out your shades in a tinted car ...... you may notice a deap purpleish color on the side windows and may be worse on the windshield as the slope is much different than the side window.

As far as what you think looks good or looks "gay" I think that most people are going to look at a car with a tinted windhield and think that the car looks stupid. Just my opinion .... nothing personal.

I have 20% on my windows and 40% on the fronty windshield and I have not had any problems with visibility. I have a lingering "fix-it" ticket, but I see just fine out of the front. I actually want to go 20% on the front also.

A windshield tint is illegal in the United States and any cop that catches you with windshield can and will give you a ticket for it, no matter how dark. As long as it is there the cop can ticket you for it.

Insurance issue

I thought tinting your front windshield is not only against the law but if your insurance company finds out when you get into an accident with your car they can deny you coverage. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
My last two cars had the front windshield tinted 50%. Very minimal visibility issues, only in really dark areas when raining. Nothing to worry about. The only reason I did not tint this car was the worry of not being covered in an accident.

Interesting because so far about 100 people have asked me where can they get their windshield tinted because it looks that good and its practical too in hot GA weather.

I know a guy in Atlanta that will tint windows. Actually he's in duluth. He's tinted 5 of my cars and i've told a lot of other people to go to him. If you need a guy to do it, ask me. He uses formula oneo tints which have lifetime warranty against fading.

A cop will definatly give you a ticket unless you have a notorized doctor's note stating that your eyes need the tint on the front windshield.

My cousins car had the winshield tinted and niether he or I could stand it and he quickly got rid of it. I don't have the best vision at night even with contacts.

I'll also say this if you ever get into an accident with somebody else and they see you have your winshield tinted they could make up just about anything and the police are more likely to put the fault on you than the other person.
