y pipe install is it necessary to reset ECU

I just installed my new wsp Y pipe and I was wondering if it is necessary to reset the ECU or will it eventually learn my new set up.

I got mine installed at about the same time as you, when I first started up there was rattling so we lifted the car back up and used a clamp to make up for the hanger I lost on my B pipe because this lovely New England weather.

How long do I need to disconnect the battery?

Thanks.

No need to disconnect the battery....our ECU's are always learning. They are adaptive and start learning the new setup as soon as you put it on there. I would say that within about 200-300 miles, it will know everything that is different and have full potential.

ORG members seem to have a funny way of titling their threads. This thread is titled "y pipe install is it necessary to reset ECU", that makes it sound like he's asking if he needs to install a y-pipe to reset his ECU. Or there is another one titled something like "help car shakes after 60mph", seems like starts to spaz as soon as his car hits 60mph. Funny how one missing comma(,) can have an effect on the meaning of a sentence. Now moose don't get mad, from the body of your post it's obvious what you mean but I hope you understand what I was trying to say.

i dont wanna steal your thread but right now im having minor rattling issues. i had the pipe installed by a muffler shop.

i have rattling when i press the gas and start rolling and also when i floor it, it rattles when it gets to 3k rpm. if i put my hand on the transmission, i can easily feel the rattle. i also hear it too. it doesnt rattle if i cruize like a granny. btw the rattling feels like its happening right under the transmission. should i worry about it or it would go away?

i know where you're coming from, but most of the time, ppl are just worried about whats wrong with their car to give a crap about punctuation. (which is completely understandable).

As for the ECU reset, i agree w/Brudaddy.

yeah, but it can't hurt it, right? It may even speed up/give a jump start to the calibration process if you allow time it to reset. JMO.
