Dummy Stripped a Lugnut Stud
Dummy Stripped a Lugnut Stud
Would replacing a lugnut stud for a rear wheel be a easy job. What's required? Has anybody done this before on their cars. I screwed up the threads when I was rushing when the weather was bad and I working out on the driveway.
Thanks in advanced for any info you can provide me on this job.

YOu don't have to hammer at all when you are putting the new one back in. Just put it in there, put the wheel back on and use the lug tool to screw it back down as tight as you can get it. Then, take the wheel back off again to look at how it is in there. If it is not seated in the hole correctly, repeat the previous steps until it seats correctly.
For me, this was a 15min job. It didn't take long and was not hard.

Either way works I guess...you're right, it's an easy job and it was not hard at all.

Thanks for the help guys. One more question: Can one get the lug stud replacement at someplace like a NAPA, Checkers, or PepBoys or should it come from the dealer?
Yeah, I knew it was a dumb move (did it with an impact wrench) because the weather was killing me.

Do it if they need replacement. I stripped at least two of mine, and as a result my Max is sitting in a tire store right now waiting for a replacement
(they were discovered while said tire store was going to mount/balance new tires on my rims...
How many intact lugs studs do I need to safely drive a distance of 40 miles @ 20-60 mph so that I can get home and replace the damn things?

3 lugs, but I would not drive at 60 mph. Take an extra half hour and drive at 30 mph. Brake gently, turn gently.
No!
Don't go to the stealership!
They wanted like $6 for mine when I was going to do it. They also wanted like $6 for one lug nut, and then $35 to put it all on. That is why I decided not to take it there and to just do it by myself.
You can get it at NAPA, I know. I bought some from www.rockauto.com and they were here in two days. I bought a whole box of them for about the same price that the stealership wanted for one.
Make sure that you get some anti-seize to spray on there before you put the new ones back on. This will help you keep from stripping it off again.

You guys are the greatest. Thanks for the helpful info on this job. Sounds easy enough to tackle. Gonna pick the part up from Nissan for 4 bucks and some change today.
Chalk another one up to my wallet and not the shops bank-roll.
