Dry Ice To Fix Dents?

My Buddy Goes To UTI, and I Guess His Teacher Worked At Toyota And They Used Dry Ice To Fix Dents. Does Anyone Know If This Works? I Might Be On My Way To Baskin Robbins If It Does Work.

Thanks

mmmm...i know of a technique that involves heat and ice...you heat the surface and then quickly cool it...supposedly it works, but have yet to see anyone make it work...

I've heard of this. The dry ice causes the metal to contract after the area is heated and pop out the dent. But I hear that you really have to know what you are doing or you can make the dent much worse.

When a metal pannel is dented it's also streatched. You can't really just pull out a dent you also need to shrink the metal back to the correct size. When you pull the dent out, the dent area comes back out further then it was originally, thus the need to shrink it back to size. That process involves heating and cooling it. We use a torch & plain old cool water at the body shop, there's no need for ice of any kind to make this process work. It's just good old fashion metal working.

Interesting.
I wish there was an easier way to get little dents out than there is.
I just hate those little ones that you get from people opening doors on your car and such.

mmmm metal does contract and expand when the temp changes but i don't think it is that much to pop the dent out. I dunno.....dry ice, heat, tapping haha to i would just go to a shop and pay 25 bucks
