FUnny Sounds
FUnny Sounds
I just got both ball joints changed, now when i hit 55 my left wheel hub rea starts making an odd clicking sound , and only when my foot is off the gas.. it sounds like when you put a card in a bicycle wheel and it flaps against the spokes... anybody got any ideas?
If it is in the front left wheel area, you have a few options of what it could be:
-wheel bearing going out (sounds like dull roar)
-CV joint problem (usually noticeable in turns)
-tie rod end problem (not likely unless you are having steering or wobbling issues)
-control arm or stabilizer bar bushings gone
-if it is a 5-speed, the transmission is in that area, so you might have a transmission bearing going out or a clutch issue. Does the sound go away when the clutch is in?
If it is a clicking sound, the most likely thing is a CV joint going out. I can't tell you for certain because I don't have a lot of information on your car, but given what I do know, that's a possibility.
It's very strange that it goes on when you take your foot off the pedal. Most front end problems come and go with speed, not with rpms. Totally unrelated to front end problems:
-check your exhaust manifold and exhaust system for holes. Especially check the flex pipe. When you take your foot off the pedal, the engine makes sounds that are amplified with a hole in the exhaust system.
just some thoughts

Same thing happened to me when my ball joint was replaced. It turned out to be my wheel bearing in the hub going. I bought the bearing and got a used hub and had the old one pressed out and the new one pressed it. Quiet ever since.
