Taillight Removal?

I was wondering if anyone here has experience removing the taillights. Not to take the cover off and change the bulbs...to take out the whole tailight so I can modify it. It looks like it's stuck in there with some sort of adhesive that I'd have to melt off. Anyone have any ideas/comments? Thanks.

I took it off last year to put some SE lights on my GXE. It's not hard at all. All you need is a socket wrench with the right socket. I forgot which socket it is but once you take the bolts off then all u have to do is apply a lil force on the back of the light and it'll push right out. There is a black silicon like substance on the light that will come off a lil when you take the light off so I went to Home Depot and bought Silicon 2 and resealed them in case any water tried too seep in. No problems what so ever. Took me about 20 mins to change them out and add silicon. Good luck !!

Mine didnt take very long to get out, but the best way was to unbolt the 3 bolts...i think 8 or 7mm and then have someone push em while you pull the outside of the housing... The sealant is pretty hefty depending on the age of it...

Just give them a solid pull, they eventually give. That black silicone that seals them is messy stuff, definatly wear gloves if you plan to remove it.

it makes it alot easier if you use a hair dryer or a heat gun...i didnt feel like standing there with a hair dryer so i used 2 of my halogen work lights and mounted them in the trunk facing the back of the taillight...and left the lights on there for about 2 hours...i only did it that long because i fell asleep...they came out really easy after heating up the sealant

Thanks for all your help! I'll try it out and let everyone know how it goes. Maybe even take some pics after I modify it!
