Click sound when I hit the brake

I noticed a clicking sound that happens everytime i press the brakes when I'm parked. It sounds like it coming from behind the ashtray. I think it might be related to the safety-lock mechanism of pressing the brake before you can shift out of park. It's only noticiable when parked since I can't hear over the noise of the road, but if I tap the brakes, the click sound happens everytime when I'm not moving.

Has anyone heard of this before?

Thanks!

I think its normal. May it has to do with locking the transmission so you cant change gears if brake pedal is not pressed.

That's because it ONLY happens in park.

It's a SAFETY measure to make sure you have your foot on the brake when you shift out of park into a gear, so you don't lurch into something.

I think my safety switch is Phucked up. Every once in a while it is hard to shift out of park, even with the brake depressed.

Anyone heard of this/fixed it?

I am 100% sure that sound is normal. Will do it when you are parked and when you are at a stand still and you tap the brake. Does it in mine. I drive cars around all day. Alot of 04' Altimas too. They do it as well. I wondered about it too until I heard the Altimas doing it.

I thought that it was a safety feature while in park, but I can be in D and tap the brakes before I really start moving and hear the clicking sound...plus I didn't hear it when I first got the car!

The shift interlock solenoid is making the clicking sound

clicking sound is normal in P and D....If the car jerks a little when in P, you may encounter trouble shifting....
