I just put in new brake pads and rotors on my 95 and I accidentally broke one of those metal wires that fit into the pads. Is this a problem that I need to fix immediately or will that one little wire make that much of a difference?

 

id say you need to fix it asap, pretty much anything that goes on the brakes is their for a reason, and there is a reason that little wire was there, so fix it

 

If it's the 2 "wire springs" that fit on the edge of the pads, then it's not a big deal. A lot of aftermarket pads don't even have the holes drilled for them. It helps the pads "disengage" from the rotor...

 

I'm not clear what we're talking about, and I changed some brakes last weekend! It sounds like the clips that hold the pad in to the torque member, and if so, I think it's necessary, but no biggie as it's part of the hardware kit, which is not expensive.

 

Chunger is right, the wire that broke was one of the wires that help the pad come off the rotor. They dont seem that important, they look to be made of some cheapo metal.

 

If it is the anti-rattle wires (the only thing I'd describe as 'wire') don't worry about it. Nissan doesn't even include these in their brake hardware kits anymore because they were useless pieces of metal.

 

Thats what I figured but I am a perfectionist when it comes to my car. It bothered me knowing that something might be wrong down there...good to know that its not a big deal. Thanks all.
