my brother has a 1999 jeep grand cherokee and when he shuts the door the interior lights dim out. i love this mod and would like to put this in my 95 max but am unsure where to start. if anyone has done this any help would be appreciated. any kind of resistor or something that could achieve this?

 

There was a post about this awhile ago but no one figured out how to do it... I think it would be cool. I'm suprised our cars don't have it even 3rd gens did...

 

Well then...a good start would be finding out how it occurs in the 3rd gen's. Wiring diagrams maybe?

 

I know there are special made relays for this. I am also planning to do this in my car. My mom used to have a buick skylark that had this, and luckily for me i have the haynes manual for it. Im gonna find out where its located and how its wired in to the lighting system; go to the junkyard and rip it out of a junked skylark and slap it into my car. Im guessing it should work as i think its just a special relay. voltage is the same everything should work out just peachy.

I dont know that it will be that simple...seeing as ours turn offf as soon as that post on the door is pushed in...i dont know how a relay would would slowly let off power when it already just shuts off....just a thought

 

you would need something to store the energy before the light is shut off, then slowly release it when the power is cut, a small battery or something might work. This mod just seems like more effort then it would be worth.

 

Its super-classy though, make you feel like your in a nice luxury car or a movie theatre or something. Im going next week so ill see what i can do and ill fill you guys in.

 

you mean something like a capacitor and a relay would do it. Hell, if you could figure it out, mount it on a card and then put a little plastic box around it...million dollar idea guys!!!

make a negative trigger relay with a capacitor on the output so then the lights would dim...at an exponential rate of power : )

but then youd have to hook up another relay to recharge the cap?

ehh...i should take a basic electronics class : )
