I'm planning to replace all 6 ignition coils this weekend. Should I put in new spark plugs since i'm changing the coils? My current platinum NGK plugs only have about 26K miles so they should be in decent shape..but wondering if it's a good practice to change both at the same time.

Does poor coil operation adversely affect the spark plugs?

 

Your plugs are probably good, but if you are that far into it what is another few bucks to change the plugs???? I would just change them, but thats me.

 

OEM plugs will run you $60+ and are good for 60k minimum. I wouldn't bother personally

I might check them - I might even buy new ones in case the old ones are crap - but I wouldn't put the new ones in yet.

 

get ngk coppers all 6 are like 12 bux, and are good as far as performance. they will wear faster than plainums tho.

finished! i decided to go ahead and replace all the plugs with the NGK coppers. it took me about 1 and 30 mins. since this was my first time swapping plugs and coils, i took my time and followed the haynes manual to the letter (applied anti sieze, di-electric compound etc.)

After swapping the coilpacks and plugs, I reset the ECU and my CEL--that has been on for months is finally off. I hardly recognize my gauge cluster lol!

The car is a little choppy since I reset the ECU, but hopefully it won't be long until things are back to normal.

 

how much did your coil packs cost?

 

I paid $369.30 (not incl shipping) from Courtesy Nissan in Texas for the Mistubishi coils (Hanshin coils are also available). They charged $60.29 for each front coil and $62.81 for each rear. However, Courtesy was not the cheapest...nissanparts.cc is the cheapest place I could find the coils..they sold em for $57 each for the front. I went with Courtesy because I needed to get other parts--a new clutch, rear brake stuff, and other misc parts.

Why not?
Get some NGK Coppers and they will last you about 30K miles.
They should only run you about $12 for all 6 at the most.
