Need help with intake manifold gasket

I am getting ready to do my knock sensor (again) and I couldn't figure out the first time I did it if I need to put gasket maker on the upper intake manifold gasket. It is the paper gasket with some kind of black rubberized stuff on one side and no sealant of anykind on the other side. Are you guys putting gasket maker on this gasket? Are you putting it on the side without the rubber, the side with the rubber, neither, or both? I have read FAQ's, and most instruction just tell you to put stuff back on in reverse order and they make no mention about the upper intake manifold specifically. Thanks for your input

I have this gasket sealer that I use on everything engine related except exhaust gaskets. It is not necessary, but it seals better than anything else I have ever seen or used before. I actually had to get it imported from Germany, a good friend of mine recommended it to me. Apparently alot of audi and bimmer engine builders use it aswell. I forgot what it is called but I have 3 extra bottles of it, lol (one bottle should last me for many years to come (and I am constantly working on cars).

I use it on all my engine work and have never had problems with leaks and stuff. Infact on of the cool things is its already paid for itself because as long as the gasket is still intact, you just seal it with this stuff and it makes a better than new seal. (Plenum gasket cost me about $7, that plus say $3 for a TB gasket, take it apart twice and you've already paid for the bottle of it).

So did you just use the plenum gasket with gasket sealer as well, or did you just use the gasket sealant? I just want to do it right whatever I do. I must admit, I am getting good at it but I'd rather not have to take apart my intake again.

gasket plus gasket sealer, you just put it on, it goes on really thin. Just makes a really good seal between the paper and the metal. It's overkill, but still. I've never seen it in a store. I'll get the name of it in the morning. I have 3 extra bottles I can sell if your interested.
