Just bought Illuminas for the rear and I have a question

Will the rear Illuminas be able to match the stiffness of the AGX front struts?

I blew one of the rears which was giving me noises when extending.

From what I read the illuminas CAN be as hard but will not blow on you. I remember reading that many people had their rear AGX blow on them and they replaced them with the illuminas. You'll have to experiment with the adjusting to see what level you like.

fiddle with the stiffness of the illuminas and try to even it out with the agx's. i dont think it should be too big a problem.

no the illuminas at the highest setting will not match the highest setting of the AGX. The setting 5 on my rear Agx felt like the 4 on the illuminas. Maybe also due to the different springs, but the illuminas do feel much softer

I am using same springs as I did with the AGX's and I think the Illumina's are stiffer.

Where you should have them though is on the front because Illumina's control dampening and rebound and the AGX's only control dampening.

That would prevent the front from coming up and shifting the weight to the rear, that is the main reason I went with the Tokico.

Of course that is for the track, on the road probably wouldn't make any difference.

Nopi just got back to me telling me they are out of stock on them. Hmmmmmmmm....I have to make some decisions and soon.

Thanks for the replies though.

Jime, if you think they are stiffer than AGX's I'm going to buy them somewhere else. I just want to make sure the back isn't continually bouncing over bumps while the front AGX's is just taking the road and moving on.

I'm glad this thread was posted... I seem to be in the same situation, as I'm pretty sure my rear AGX's are blown. I'm not sure if it is just weight transfer, but when I step on the brakes the bouncy rubbing noise seems to go away for a minute.

Anyone have a link to the ordering page for motivational rear shock mounts, while everything is apart I might as well upgrade.

Its a judgement call because I have no way of actually measuring, I do know that the AGX's are 125% stiffer than stock on the highest setting but I haven't been able to find any specs on the Illumina's.

Sure rides like its on steel wheels with 5 all the way around though.

^ I personally go with the Tokico Illuminas if I were to do everything over again, and as far as the springs... Eibach will ride a lot harder than the H&R's. If I were to buy springs now, I'd get the Tein S-tech's... even with my Intrax springs, the wheel gaps still seem big.

I just got the rears today and will install them on Sunday unless I can get my mother-in-law to babysit on Saturday. What's a good medium to start with on the rear Illuminas? The front AGX's are set to 1.

I just bought my set of Illuminas today, let me know how it goes. Someone also told me that the Illuminas "rod" is chrome plated which allows it to be lubbed everytime it goes up and down and the companys dont. No joke

I saw some lube when i compressed and pulled the piston. I just think thats lube for the rubber o-ring that's around the piston. They have to be lubed to keep them from ripping when everything is assembled.

I installed the Illuminas and all I have to say is WOW!!!! The struts ride great. I did like the stiffness of the AGX but the Illuminas make the AGX feel like they are flawed in their design.

I'll riding on 1 in the front (AGX) and 3 in the rear (Illumina). The ride is just about perfect but I know I'll have to invest in the front Illuminas in time.

Best of all, no more suspension noise. The right rear AGX was blown to bits. There was dirt and sand all over the areas where the fluid had leaked out.

I thought they had a 1 year warranty on them? I've had them over 2 so I'll send them back if I can.

I don't have dust boots on the rear and the winter months definitely didn't cause them to blow. I've been living with the blown strut since last summer. I kept getting this creaking noise when the suspension would extend and I thought it was everything else but the strut. 3 weeks ago when I rotated my tires, I noticed all of the crap on the strut. The car was feeling sloppy also.

The stock boots will fit if you want to use them.

Well said Deezo....

You think your car rides great now, just wait till you put the Illuminas up front.

I was suppose to install my suspension today: Sprints/KYB Dustboots/Illuminas.

But all the auto stores around here didn't have any spring compressors

Next week I'll be checking back!

The coil overs are a different design all together, that's why you wouldn't be able to use the stock dust boots. If you're installing OEM replacement struts, the dust boots will fit with no problem. I have boots on my front AGX struts. I added the bump stop because there should be a level of protection to prevent bottoming out on your frame or exhaust piping.
