i have decided to replace my coils and plugs, since the rears are such a b1tch...should I remove the upper intake plenum for easier access??

I don't think you have to for the 00-01. I did my coils on my 2000 I30 and did not remove the manifold

no need to remove the manifold. the rears will take longer than the fronts but it is still not a big deal. just as a heads up, try to use some form of NGK plugs(copper, platnium, iridium) as some have all sorts of issues with bosch, etc. just about every 4th gen that had problems after tuneups used bosch the first time around. also remember to use high temp dielectric grease to coat the inside of the boot on the new coils to allow for easier removal later down the line.
