I got in my 2000 max today,started it up and I get a burning smell (electrical) inside the car. There was no smell under the hood or anywhere outside the car. The TCS Off light and SLIP light were on as soon as the car started up. After about 1 min the CEL light came on. I dropped it off to the garage immediately...
Has anyone experienced this sort of mayhem?
Let me also say that last year I've replaced the alternator, battery, and coils (I'm also wondering if my starter is dying - really slow chugging starts once in a while for no apparent reason.)

very rarely..my tcs and slip light comes on but after i turn it off and on again it goes away soemtimes. same thing..2000 max se
maybe its my front right wheel hub and bearing that needs to get replaced..???

 

Yeah, the only way to find out is to pull the code from the CEL.

 

Traction control + slip + CEL = Coil Pack or speed sensor.

Pull the codes to see whats wrong.

 

when you say coil pack - you mean the ignition coils? i had them replaced around 45000km ago...
i'm more nervous about the burning smell...

 

Hey, had the same problem about 5,000 miles ago. Took to the dealership and I had to replace all xsix of my coils. Cost me about 900 with labor. I'm pretty sure you can get it done for cheaper. The car drove perfectly when tehse lights came on for me, but took it in...and I took a hit on my wallet. Anywayz, I'm happy its fine...car drives better ever since i replaced them so I guess it's worth it then..

Since when 00'-01' Max has TCS? I was looking over the Maxima Brochure I kept after I got my Max and it didn't show anywhere they had a TCS on them.

 

It was considered as a package option on certain models. I have a '00 and have TCS.
