So Mr. Gone. How does you new style CAI work?

I made one for him yesterday.

Good: a) Requires much less cutting. Actually only about 3 min worth.
b) Filter is more in the bumper area. Should be better protected from road crap, water etc...
c) Filter removal can be done by just removing the headlight and corner. About the same as removing the liner though.

Bad: a) Haven't found a good place for the fuse box as the pipe gets in the way.
b) Don't know if this affects the bmw light conversion or not. If they are smaller, it shouldn't. If they are deeper/wider/taller, it probably will.

Still haven't decided if I should market this or not. If I find a way to fix Bad a), I'll think about it.

I will get pics in a few minutes. One thing I can say its pretty dang loud at 4000-5000rpm lol.

Yesterday it was hard for me to tell a difference (because of that 87oct. gas), but this morning I went out and the car felt like it had more pickup.

It's actually pretty cool, and I dont think it will interfere with the bimmer conversion because of where the pipe is compared to the headlight bracket (lower right hand corner when looking at it dead on). When I did a bimmer conversion on another car I didnt even touch that spot on the headlight brackets.

Nice CAI. Are you planning on marketing the CAI Jeff92se?

I have never seen costco sell kirkland battery ?

BTW, you did nice job but it looks so risky to have CAI right next to the fuse box with wires.

I don't know if I'll market it. I might just make one more for myself and see if I like it. If yes, then maybe. Gota find a solution for the fuse box. But the less cutting is worth it. Better than having a hole in the sheet metal.

Would you guys put up with having to relocate the relay box in order to avoid cutting a hole in the fender well?

Notes:

Performance: I really don't see how this design would be much better/worse than the normal CAI. As the filter is in a similar place. If Shawn would put some damned super in his car, maybe he could comment! haha

Yeah...and also use something other than Arco! After looking at those pics though...I'd be weary if you can do the BMW light conversion. I mean, I've seen them on two cars up there, and they sit back a little more than the stock ones do IIRC. Either way, great job Jeff. Wanna help me weld together a 2.5" exhaust?

I trying to see if I can angle the pipe lower and more along side the fender. The one we used for Shawn's was a premade deal so I had to work with we already had.
Would be glad to start designing a 2.5" system! We should knock out that cai for cardana first. But if you want to get together and try to map out a plan, fine.

Jeffro, we could make a bimmer light and see if it clears

It's touching in a part that remains stock when you do the bimmer conversion, or atleast it did on the one I did.

I dont drive the car that much, I've still got a half a tank. Maybe I'll just go grab a can of Xylene

Any more thoughts? I have an extra 3" U bend and my old Cattman 3" filter. I might make mine this week.

just under half a tank.

It's fun though, but it's alot louder with the window down then up. I have no idea how, but my muffler makes that viberation/rattle noise a heck of alot more now

lmk when you are going to make/install yours, i'll help. plus I'll let you drive my car abit if you want to see what it sounds like.

Bah. I'll use the straight 3" pipe that I have since no one wanted a mid -pipe from me. I'll be able to ultize this pipe location for other things anyway.

what? Didn't Chris buy a mid-pipe?

You might want to make a thread, VE mid-pipe, 3 forsale, who's in? or something like that.

Chris's mid-pipe is being sent today via priority. In that thread, I asked if someone else wanted one and response was "nada". So screw it. I'd sell them for $45 shipped though.
Would come with the hose couplers and hose clamps.
