sounds like a great deal. But remember, dont buy anything you know you cant afford...its a pain to pay off interest rates and being in debt is no joke. Ask if family members could help out. You could figure you can sell your car now and get some cash out of that

o.O really? I thought 99 is better for modding...
As for the car, cant you sell your 95 and get some money for it as well?

The thing is that's its not only MY car, it's more a family car but I paid the one third of it so I won't get much from it.

95:
OBD 1
JWT ECU
aftermarket y-pipe gets rid of 3 pre-cats
95 gxe is the fastest 4th gen

99:
OBD 2
more ECU work to swap
aftermarket y-pipe gets rid only 2 pre-cats, not 3
99 fully loaded is slower

okie i'll give you the red/clear tails...

either way it doesn't matter. u will be driving a 4th gen maxima with a VQ30DE... other than some minor difference like seats, climate control, blahblalh, not a big deal.

if i were u i wouldn't do it...jus cuz i'm too lazy to get my **** up and go through all these process. just wanna keep the 95, daily driver, drive safe and responsibly from point A to point B and be a happy man.

I think the only thing is the ECU...I didn't know there was 3 pre-cats on the 95-96's though...I thoght y-pipes got rid of all cats except the main one

That's because there aren't. There are two. And the 99 y pipes get rid of 1 or 0 precats, depending on who's pipe you're using. And also, all 4th gen maximas are OBDII, even the 95's. DaveB had a long thread about this before.

Kids... they get everything backwards....

Is there something wrong with your 95? If not, I wouldn't bother going through the hassle of it all just to end up with basically the same car again.... it's still a 4th gen, still looks so much alike that only maxima enthusiasts can tell them apart, with nothing really notable between them.

*edit- Just to toss in a little more stuff, I believe the 99's already have the exhaust setup from the 2000+ maximas, and the ecu can't be upgraded. The 95-96 are the only ones that can get the ecu upgrade without cel light.

Whats with the ECU?

And what does OBD 1 or 2 means?

stay withwhat you have,
you dont have to buy a hole new car just for red/clears.

Just a 97 trunk. It will be much cheaper than buying a new car.

ECU - Engine Control Unit, also referred to as Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

OBD I and II are diagnostic tools. OBD II is significantly more detailed than it's predecessor.

of course I'm biased because I have one...!

Ask your family if you can sell it and then in the time it's being sold, search for another similar max 5-spd. They are out there for that price. Remember that max's have no resale value so 1) your '95 won't sell for much and 2) you will be able to find another 99 for 8k if you look hard enough.

Spend within your means. Debt sucks.

keep the 95...and mod that...I used to own a 97 and lost it in an accident...I bought a 95 and modded it way beyond my 97 and it was cheaper...its faster (a tad) cause its lighter (no sunroof) and I have the exact same engine and tranny in the car...check out my page for what your 95 could look like.

There is nothing cosmetically on my car right now that identifies it as a 95 except the damn VIN number...even the steering wheel/airbag was changed.

Well, the main reason I want to buy another car is to have my OWN car, you know...I hate sharing this max with my bro and I'm having a few probs with the 95.

Don't think of the car's age as in years. Think of miles first. I have a 96 and in 2 years it will be 10 years old too, BUT I don't even have 90k on it and if I keep up the driving that I do, I don't think I'll have 100K buy the time it turns 10.

If it's a rusted out sh|tbox at age 10, that's a different story, but the most of us take care of our cars and need not worry about that kind of stuff.
