Font AGX making noises... anyone else??

For the past few months my passanger front AGX strut makes a noise whenever i roll over a speed bump or just minor dips in the road. I wanted to know if anyone else has similar noises with their AGX's. Im on Sprints and yes i do understand that AGX are not designed for a low drop, so please dont tell me its cause of my springs!

post some feedback, im thinking about calling KYB up and possibly getting it replaced.

It would be nice if you described the noise. There are many things that can be wrong. Who said that AGX aren't designed for low drop? With the sprints make sure you have camber bolts/plates.

according to KYB they will not be covered if they are installed on a lowered car. And yes i have eibach camber bolts on my car

the noise is not a squeak, but more of a clunk sound when i hit bumps. My boy Joes02max car does the same thing as a matter of fact... and im using OEM strut mounts, not KYB.

**Earlier today i put the setting to 4 and the noise went away, so i know its definitly the strut and nothing else.** ill still call them and ask if i can get it replaced.

I got AGX's on progress springs, and since day one, it's always made some knocking/creeking sounds over bumps.

They could be blown. Is the car handling a bit sloppy over bumps? One of my rears was blown and it made noise everytime it extended. Soon as I swapped them for Illuminas, the ride because perfect and the noise was gone.

Not true, they will cover it UNLESS the car was dropped more than 1.5". Is the sort of like a small metal plate hitting another metal piece. I had the same thing and it ended up being the washer that I got with the KYB boots. It would get loose on bumps and hit the metal things.

You guys are freakin me out. These AGX's are *NOT* old enough to be blowing yet, even with how the roads are in Boston. I have a variety of clunks coming from my suspension and/or steering. I'm bringing it in this Friday to have the dealership check over all the miscellaneous wear items and hopefully eliminate the noise. If the struts are blown I am going to be super ****ed.

Look to see if their leaking. I've read reviews on how AGX's blow in under 10000 miles and i didn't believe it when it happened to me.

My guess... its blown or pretty close to it...

When you lower your car more then 1.75" it decreses the life of the AGX strut/shock dramatically... I went through multiple sets of these when I had my cattman coils gen1 and 2's. All winter when car was at stock height, everything was fine, as soon as I lowered it more then 1.75 (had it at 2" atleast) it lasted about a month. Made same clunking/clanking noise etc... My replacement set, same deal, cept I got them in the summer so I imediately slammed them again...(i coudlnt believe the shock could die so quick)...sure enough... dead again within 2 months or so, daily driving.

If it still handles good (doesnt bottom out, etc..) Then its probably the strut mount, try those motivational mounts. I think daveB had good reviews on em...

I'll have to check them when I change the wheels this weekend...although the dealer will probably notice if they are too...that had better not be it, but it's been a looooong *** winter in Sommerville/Charlestown potholes. It seems to be handling fine even when I had the rims on a couple weeks ago and was really beating on it...so I think it's probably something else. Only thing that sucks is I don't have time to order the motivational mounts...which ABSOLUTELY could be the prob since the friggin dude that installed them for me didn't put in the new ones I already bought

How many miles are on your illuminas? Are they holding up?

One of my buddies has an 87.5 Coupe GT (lowered) and blew some cheap KYB's he had on it. The guy at his parts place was saying that it was the thickness of the shaft on the strut...the KYB's was too thin which caused flex which caused it to wear unevenly which caused it to blow early. He bought Billstein's for it and the shaft was *way* thicker.

I wonder if the illuminas have a thicker shaft or if there might be some other struts that would work...

so kyb's arent designed for sprints. I am on maxspeeds right now and soon to switch to sprints because maxspeeds doesnt offer much a drop. I always thought agx's are safe to be paired up with sprints that was the only reason i went for agx's because if i wanted to go lower i would have the struts already.

I probably have 250 miles on the Illuminas and they ride perfectly. They do what they're supposed to do, dampen the ride and keep the car from bouncing over imperfections on the road.

No strut mfg. will warranty their units on applications where the vehicle is lowered more then 1.5 inches.

KYB makes very good products, so does Tokico and both stand behind their products. Keep in mind that the strut is not the only component that could be making noise on a lowered setup. Suspension components are now operating at angles different then they were originally designed to. Components such as the lower control arm, sway bar end links, axels and tie rod ends all see loads differently on a lowered setup. Some cars may ride perfectly normal with no noises on a lowered setup and some make a few grunts and moans when their lowered. My right front makes a thunk when I go up and down my driveway and it's done that on every setup I've ever had in my car. At the stock ride height it's completely quiet. I know there is nothing wrong with my suspension components and the driveway is the only place it makes the noise, so I've come to live with that.

Before you take your suspension apart, don't assume it's the strut thats always making noise. Take a close look at your bushings and make sure there not wearing odd and causing your noises.

my car is making similar noises. im 99% sure its comin from the front passenger side. everytime the car starts rolling forward as i take off it makes a lound clunk. than everytime i brake it makes a loud rattling clanking. (hope this makes sense!) does anyone know wat it could be?

the mechanic thats had it for the past 2 days cant figure it out. he checked the bushings and said they were fine and the sway bar end links were fine also. he is going to look at the control arms today but if sumone knows wat the problem is than i can let him know what to chek.
