Has anyone on the org. ever try using a heat gun to remove tint ? How does it work ?

 

I bought some stuff from Autozone called Gila Tint Remover. Comes in a spray bottle with a plastic scraper. Tells how much it will remove per bottle, only like $8. Friend had good luck with it, I haven't had a chance to try it yet myself.

 

If it's a warm sunny day outside, and you don't mind sweating inside your car, you can let it sit in the sun to heat the tint and you won't need a heat gun. I did mine that way, pretty easy, just make sure you have some cold beer close by.

 

I gotta do this too. My tint on rear window is getting worse everyday.
any instruction or advise?

Advise- Don't use a sharp razor blade, you could permanently damage the glass, especially the rear defroster. Get the glass nice and hot, the tint will come off in bigger pieces that way.

 

There are some other threads for this. You just have to make sure to take your time with the rear window. If you don't, you can say bye, bye to your rear defroster.
That is the only reason I have not tackled mine yet.
It is doable though, just takes some elbow grease.

 

to remove tints, i used:
Windex
Razor blade
Paper Towel

I have removed tints for atleast 5 cars and they all came out nice.

 

yes, but you cannot use razor on rear glass if you have a rear defroster. You will ruin it.

 

...why would you want to get rid of it??

 

when i look in my rear view mirror through my tint it looks like looking through somebodys prescription glasses. I want to take it off but then again, i want to have tint in the back. if i installed new do-it-myself tint would it look completely clear? Im still going to take it off first because i cant even tell what kind of car is behind me, bad idea because of cops. anyway, how easy is it to install store bought tint?
