Installation of an Amp/Sub to stock bose sound system

HI,

I have a 97 max gle, with the stock bose sound system. I would like to keep my stock bose head unit as well as the speakers. I'd like to add some bass by adding an amp and a 12" sub. I've heard conflicting theories on whether one can install aftermarket amps/subs to a stock bose system. I know that the bose system is a little different in the fact that it has amps at each speaker. Basically my concern is that if I do install an amp/sub with a line out converter or some other approach it may ruin my stock system in the long run. The last thing i want is my stock bose system to die on me for adding the amp/sub.

Is it possible to install an amp/sub with stock bose speakers/deck and if so what is the procedure? How does it sound? Does anyone have an existing setup that is kinda like how i want mine?

Some have suggested that it can't be done, others say use special nissan bose adapters, others still say use a line out converter? I'm kinda confused and not sure who to believe?

I would really appreciate it if you could let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

you can add the amp & subs , but you do need to get the adapter , and probably a noise filter. if you DIY check with Crutchfield stereo for parts and advice, if you have it done Best Buy can do it, but ask questions ie: whose done it, what problems if any, recommendations.
