Here's my opinion:

1) If you have a lightened flywheel, don't use the ACT Pressure Plate - it's too agressive and tends to warp the flywheel pretty badly.

2) One run at the track on slicks:

I went with the CLutchnet 6-puck. You don't need a 6-puck for your application, but maybe you should go with the clutchnet disc. Less agressive PP and just as good if not better disc material.

If you plan on staying NA, then OEM is all you need. It offers by far the best reliability of any clutch on the market and offers the right amount of grip and torque absorption. IMO, the ACT clutches have proven three things:

1) By a wide margin, more people have broken gears with ACT clutches compared to any offer clutch on the market for a Maxima

2) The ACT clutch will allow you to chirp 3rd and 4th

3) The ACT clutch has been known to completely shed it's clutch lining within 5K miles. I know of 5 instances where this has happened to Org members, one of which is in KC.

107K miles, 50+ 1/4 mile passes, 4-4.5K launches, 20% more WHP/WTQ over stock and I'm still using the stock clutch. It's never slipped once. How can you argue with that kind of reliable performance? I believe Nealoc is also running the OEM clutch (not the orginal, but it is OEM) and pulls 1.8-1.9 60 foots.

Nothing else needs to be said after that reply! Nice stats and facts Dave B. I have own the stage II ACT and it lasted under 10K miles and destroyed my Fidanza Flywheel. I am still mad over that....ended up costing me around $1000 to replace all the broken pieces; however, It was the best mod I could actually feel when I did have it....I am back to OEM now, not as grabby but WAY more reliable.

This saddens me because I have an ACT stage 2 i got 8K ago. Its still running well though. I got an oem flywheel, and I'm NA.

dave that is about all i needed to hear to stay with another oem clutch, i put 155,000 miles on this one before she went.

question: should I choose to take a chance with the fidanza flywheel, anyone see any problems with the nissan clutch ?

If your OEM flywheel is toasted then going with the Fidanza flywheel wouldn't be bad. The Fidanza isn't terribly light so driveability doesn't change much. Just keep in mind it will take more skill to modulate the throttle on a launch because the lighter flywheel can induce more bog if you're not good with the throttle. Once out of 1st gear there shouldn't be any problems. You may want to get the Fidanza flywheel and have it ready when the tranny comes out. If the shop says the OEM flywheel looks fine then you can make the decision if you want to keep it or not. You shouldn't have any problems selling a new Fidanza flywheel for exactly what you paid.

Ill offer my opinoin..The stock clutch is nice but i feel for overall driving enjoyment and feel of the car u cant beat the act. Being able to kill second and 3rd is awesome..u can just feel the car laying the power down harder. When i 1st put the act in i had a good bit of chatter but after about 300 miles or so it was down to a nil..i still had some and still have the same amount today..nothing bad u just have to come offline a lil higher in the rpm about 1500-2000 to come off smoothly..not a uncommon thing from what i have read from fellow org members. I have had this clutch for about 2 years now and it has seen the worst...i used to have a 95 motor that was tired and old and i beat the **** out of it..i mean daily racing...launches..clutch never failed..put in a 96 motor with 69k dont drive the car hard anymore..but when i do it still grabs just like the day i put it in. I doubt highly the stock clutch would have held up to that. Also one time i remember reading a post on the nitrous section about someone with a like 30-40k on a act using a nos at the strip. I would say My clutch between the 2 motors has seen over 30k easy. Still grabs like new chirpin 3rd hard. Also i dont have a upgraded flywheel. I do realize that some of the fastest n/a max's on here do still utilize the stock clutch..but i much prefer the act. Oh yeah not to diss the stock clutch because it had about 120k when replaced and it was still rippin second..i just wanted the act. hahah Just my 2 cents

I loved the ACT, but some how burned it in only 11-12k my Fidanza flywheel also started burning up alittle. I thought it was my throw out bearing but turned out to be my clutch.

My Clutch looked better then iansw's clutch but started slipping.

I dont understand how it burned so quick when I never even smelled it burn up. I dont beat on my car very often eather..

The Stock clutch is good but I miss my ACT

As soon as I burn my current one I will get a clutchmasters clutch.

I went through my ACT in only like 15k miles. To make a long story short it wasn't completely shot, but I was put in a situation where I could get a new stock clutch for free (and at the same time toss in a 5lb flywheel from stillen). Even though some of them wear out quickly the ACT clutch was literally 10 times more fun to drive than this stock clutch I have now. It takes a little getting used to but it makes the maxima feel like a real sports car. I guess what it comes down to is that if you go with the ACT you are taking a risk of several things going wrong. In turn you'll have a car that feels a lot more sporty and is a lot more fun to drive. I'd say if replacing the clutch is something that you're gonna have to pay a mechanic a lot of cash to do, then go with the stock clutch just because you'll know you won't have to replace it for a good while, but if you know how to work on your car or can fix things for a relatively low price, go with the ACT.

I've had my ACT on for ~40k and I love it. It's not the smoothest clutch in the world (probably the least smooth), but it grabs like no other!

The only time I regret choosing ACT is when I'm sitting in traffic; the pedal becomes very heavy!

I'm looking into the Exedy clutch. It's supposed to be between OEM and ACT.
