CEL on...off...on...off...on...off... (you get the picture)

From this thread: https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...&highlight=CEL I was having problems w/ my CEL.

I messed w/ the EGR release valve (different thread) and it went away after a reaset. A few days later, it ws back. The a week later it went off. Then back on. Now off.

WTF?!?!?

No rhyme or reason the the trigger. The last time it happened under hard accelleration, but the previous time it was while cruising @ 40 MPH.

Last time it went off right after refueling, previous time I just noticed that it happened to be off.

Any help, ideas, anything?

Have any maxima/i30 friends with a 95-97? If so, swap ECU's for a week and see what happens.

It went off when I added oil, then on when I accellerated hard. Off when I got gas, on at cruising speed.

Same codes still appear. I am going to try to re-clean and lube the valve AGAIN tonight...

Why don't you replace the EGR valve - if thats the trouble code that keeps getting posted? I know you are getting the post/clear repeatedly - maybe try pick up a used EGR valve from a junk yard - same goes for the knock sensor code... try a replacement...

It is not the EGR valve itself, it is the EGR Canister Purge Valve. It will not come off of the canister (previous stripped the plastic that holds the nut stationary).

97 I30s have frankenstein EGR systems. Some mimic 96 maximas while others are like the 97 Maxima. Also, at some poin the EGR system went from a 2-part assembly to a 4-part one (or so I have been told). Part numbers for the old system are SUPPOSEDLY hard to find.

Basically, noone at any dealership that I have dealt with has had much of a clue.
