sanding a body kit down?

how hard is it to sand a kit down all the way back to the black polyurethane? Obviously it will be repainted, but I don't want the old paint/primer on the piece at all. Is this achievable? Or will i screw it up somehow?

any one ever do this? i'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks.

a body shop should be able to do all this for you and the paint shouldn't be any different than before correct?

You can only sand Urethane down so far, if you go too far it release's oils and the paint will look like s h i t !!!

I tried sanding down my front lip before I said screw it and let the body shop do it. It was long and tedious to get the lip paint off. I would just paid the body shop to do it for you.

its easiest to do with a dual action sander, but it will probably end up being wavy if its not done right

Good choice. Just let the Body-shop do it. The cost is minimal compared to the cost of doing it yourself by hand....

Just go to an automotive paint store and ask for the paint remover especially made for polyurethane. bAnd all you have to do is brush on and wait and strip off the paint. Alot easier and doesn't risk ruining your bodykit.

Whats the problem with having the other paint/primer on it? Will it look like crap? I was thinking of getting a used kit and just having it resprayed, should I go with new?
