When I bought an out of state car I paid the taxes in the state where I live. You take care of this when you go to the DMV to get your title squared away.

i bought my first car out of state, just get it temporarially registered there (costs like 10$) then they give you plates, call your insurance, then drive it home. Take it to the DMV and get it registered in your state (then you play the tax). Then its all yours!

..or..
you can pick it up in the dead of night, drive back like you stole it, and register it in your home state.......at least that's what i did when I bought mine

disclaimer: I did NOT advise you to do that...simply saying what I did.
