fun road trip-120 mph tpk, then mountain twisties
Just got back from a fun ride in my Max out to 'sticksville' PA. Wide open PA turnpike let me check out high speed cruising. I hit 120 several times, but could not seem to get past 122. I'm not sure if I hit the limiter or not because I always seemed to come up on traffic. I did notice that the engine is smooth @ 120 and the revs are only at 4200 while there was still plenty of room-the red line is 6600. After flying down the tpk, I get off at Fort Littleton exit and have a 25 mile ride through some mountain twisties. These roads would be a great test with the FSTB, RSB, etc. if I ever get them. The only thing that ruined my trip was that on the return I got bagged @ 99.1 mph. Pretty stupid of me to travel at 120 without a radar detector, but it was too inviting. Trooper said they got me on radar and by airplane, too. I hope the points don't transfer back to NJ. Ticket was only $190 though. My wife will raise the roof as she always does when I get a speeding ticket. I never got one for going above 80, so I can imagine what she'd say about 99. Why the hell are you driving 99 mph?? CUZ IT'S FUN.
Has anyone verified top end of a 2001 SE auto? Could it be only 122 or so?

Like I said, I always seemed to run out of room when I hit about 122, so I don't know if it was actually limited. The reason why I asked is that several times I have gotten to around that speed (cruises nicely) but never cracked 125. You really need a lot of open hiway as traffic comes up very quickly at that speed. Also, I recall a recent post where somebody else cited the same top end. I know it is capable of much more because it was only at 4200 rpm. I probably won't check it out myself for a while after getting that ticket. Any other 2001 SE autos hit higher speeds??
I'll race you...

At least you'll get there before me...then wait for me to pass you.
you said it yourself, you seen to hit traffic when you reach it...
I've hit 130 at around 4500-5000 rpm once and scared myself (I guess I'm not used to it) on I-91 in CT from Exit 30-36, pretty straight, 4 lanes no traffic at 2:45am, on my way to work, with no cars in sight. It was a weird feeling... (But I don't work or live in CT anymore). Oh, by the way, I have a 2000SE 5SP, so I guess this doesn't really help...
