I have a tiny hairline crack on my rubber power steering hose in the rear passenger side of the engine bay. It just barely oozes out fluid. I wrapped some electrical tape around it for now, but is there a better solution to this short of buying a new hose?

Nah, just wait till it blows, looses all the fluid, siezes the PS pump and takes out the accessory belt. Even better if it happens going into a turn on a twisty road. The hose will be the least of your problems.

Ouch, Courtesy wants $140 for this high-pressure hose. Just for kicks, I looked on carparts.com (although I'd never buy from there) and they had one listed for $45. That sounds like a deal to me. Any thoughts?

The PS works with high pressure, possible in the 1000 psi. The electrical tape and standard radiator hose clamps will not hold the pressure. If you want to go cheap, you have the hose rebuilt with the old fitting. Ask a local auto shop on where to get hoses rebuilt and compare price to the discounted prices available. Also how trustworthly and skillful are your local hose shops?

I got the Beck/Arnley Ps hose from carparts.com. I've heard many bad things about the site, but I figured I might as well try. Besides, I was only ordering one part where I can check to see if it fits before I put it on. Anyway it fit pretty well. Had to twist it slightly to get the bolts in straight. The heat shield looks a bit more ghetto than the OE hose. But the B/A hose only cost $42, the OE hose cost $140+

Mine was cracked right where it fit into the pump, I bought the hose from a Nissan dealership for $116.. ouch.

I guess its a common prob with 3rd gens given all these replies. Oh well.

I wouldnt say so much of a common thing..

But a given, you gotta remember sum of our cars are like 11 years old, adorable but old and things break down. I had to have mine replaced to, If I remember correctly my hose cost about 60 bux, spendy lil sucker.
Mine was squirting out everywhere, I noticed a problem cuz there was steam coming out from under the hood cuz it was in the summer and so hot! My step dad does all my work for me, and it was a big pain in the *** for him to fix, but dont worry bout it, it just gets brittle and cracks from age, could be way worse!

I have the same problem, however, mine only barely oozes out. After having the car for 7 months I've devoured about 4 bottles of PS fluid. I tried fixing it w/ a bicycle patch and tape, but that didn't hold. Is it true that a catastrophic failure is emminent?
