first of all there is no gle in third generation maxima.

basic differences:

all gxe's had 160 hp (vg30e engine)

all se's from 89-91 had 160 hp (vg30e engine)

and 92-94 se's had 190 hp....these are the fastest third gens (ve30de engine)

What about the trim differences? White gauges, leather, stereo, black piece between tail lights, etc.?

SE: white gauges, dual tipped muffler, spoiler, fog lights, black trim around windows and tails, dark tail lights with black panel in the middle (89-91)...

GXE: black gauges (or digital cluster), single tipped muffler, no spoiler, no fogs, chrome trim around winds and tails, red tails and middle panel...

no GLE for third gens

Cool, thanks. I got the GLE from a car search site when it asked me to choose which trim I wanted to search for. So the SE is the highest line, right?

It depends on what you consider to be the highest line. The GXE has more comfort and convience features. (Plusher ride, keyless entry, and other misc. b.s.) The SE has firmer springs and struts, and thicker sway bars. It also get rear disc brakes and other goodies.

The GXE was marketed for the more luxury minded while SE was marketed for the enthusiast.

As previously mentioned, the only there is really big difference in the 92 - 94 SE vs. GXE. Namely more power.

GXEs come in auto only, SE's have 5spds and autos.. SE's - black mirrors, GXE body color... different rims, softer suspension on GXEs. blah blah blah.... 92-94 SEs had the VE30DE 190 hp engine GXEs only 160,
