Low Fuel Light

I just got a 99 GXE and have ran the tank pretty low. Haven't seen a low fuel warning. Does it have one? I had a 95 altima and it did. I'm thinking that there may be blown bulb or something. No big deal, just curious

It does have one but I wouldn't test it too often. Not good anyways to run the tank down so low.

Not always though as people posted the light turned on and pretty much the car turned off right away.... reminds me off that Seinfield episode with Kramer and the Volvo lol, great stuff.

so whatever stuff that settled in the bottom of you tank doesn't get sucked into you engine. also if you have an emergency in the middle of the night its not good to find you are out of gas.

It is supposed to turn on when you have like 2 gallons left. Mine comes on right about then, but doesn't stay on until I have only 1 gallon left. By then, you better get to a gas station quickly, because I am not kidding about only 1 gallon left. You can just count on like 20 or so miles after that light comes on and stays on.

The tank is supposed to hold like 18.5 gallons. So, when you figure up your gas mileage, figure it out from there.
Mine is usually around 375 for a tank that is a good bet to get gas without it getting too low.

I think another reason you don't want to get the gas too low is the fuel pump is setup to be cooled by being immersed in the gas - so if the gas level gets too low the pump wears faster from getting hotter.

I've only seen the idiot light turn on in my car once since I've had it, and that was the day after the blackout last summer.

I couldn't get gas the night before (needed it badly), and the car almost didn't start when I turned the key in the morning. got just over 17 gallons out of the pump that day.

Ive seen my light come on many times. You can still travel about 30 miles even after the light comes on. To be safe, I do try to fill my tank once I reach 1/4.

speaking of the low fuel light, how come this light was standard on all our max's but for the low washer fluid light, we had to pay for it in a cold weather/deluxe pkg.?

Mine doesnt work either but its common knowledge not let that fuel tank get too low.

I have let mine go as low as filling it up with 16.5 gallons. I really want to test if the light works, should I bother even risking it more.

The most I have ever filled the tank is 15.6 gallons and that is when my light already came on...another time I filled up about 15.4 gallons after my car stalled going up a steep hill.....gas musta been near the back of the tank. Anyways my light goes on and off after the needle isnt covering the 1/4 mark anymore.

The light on mine comes one when there is baout 2 gal left, and starts out dim and get brighter. Kinda ike suspension that slowly goes bad... I don't always notice it immediately and I ran out of gas one time. I'd love to pull the cluster and replace that stupid *** light with a blue LED/buzzer.

These days I tank up whene it hits 1/4

I don't think it is so dangerous that you will blow your engine if you run it all the way dry and get all that trash into the system, it is just not the best for your car.
Eating fast food all the time will make you fat and it is bad for you, but just every once in a while is probably okay, although it is probably not that good for you.

HAHAHAH nice comparison....I think that either way this "stuff" will go throw your engine or get sucked in there...anyways there prolly isnt much if any at all...........

Heat builds up in the fuel pump if you don't have enough in there to cool it.

I've never seen my low gas light, I don't even think its got one. Seems to me that it should come on with all the other lights when the key is turned to test it.
