Whistling while accelerating?

Sup y'all...

Whenever I accelerate quickly, maybe half throttle or more, I hear a high pitched whistling noise coming from under the car. It is very loud and obnoxious.

It only occurs when accelerating quickly and it happens in all gears (manual transmission).

I noticed the noise soon after my y-pipe install and right after I changed my gear oil to redline mt-90, though I don't know if either of these things are causing it. I also recently changed my crappy ebay air filter to a k&n filter.

You guys have any ideas as to what this is??

Thanks a lot in advance!

There was a thread about this not too long ago and it is the intake. It's usual apparently.

That's the sound of...POWA baby.

lol...yeah it is a very common thing for open intakes other than stock. Some filters are a more 'faint' whistle.

Is there any way to make it stop other than to replace the intake? I dont really like the whistling sound...the growl when flooring it on the other hand is amazing.

the stock intake resonator pretty much eliminates it all together. If you are using the stock resonator its a different whistle.

Mine started whistling and it turns out it was a vacuum leak from the hose under the TB.
Check all your hoses and replace them if they are brittle. Especially the PCV valve hose. My PCV hose looked great but fell apart when I was trying to take out the PCV valve to clean it. I replaced the hose and my erratic idle went away. Go figure

and i myslef do not hear it that much under full throttle it is just like when i am barly pressing on the petal with my JWT.

it might be but just check before assuming.

Well I have an injen style intake which puts the filter under the front end which would explain why it is coming from under the car. I am now pretty certain that the whistling noise is coming from my intake.

Has anyone ever figured out a way to stop the whistling or will I just have to live with it?

I hauled a dumbass friend of mine around, and pulled my RCA cables slightly out a little bit from my amp in the trunk, and it made a static whistle in all speakers that increased in pitch and volume when you accelerated. I told him it was the stock turbo, and then I hit the e-brake button and floored it and told him it was my NX kit. When he asked to look, I popped the trunk and pointed to my 2.0fared cap "thats it, I dont use it much. 3 shots then refill tank." "WOW DUDE YOUR CAR IS #$*#$# BAD!!"

Loved it.

damn, i was just ognna post about this question today. my car makes the same noise, and one my friends riding with me thought the car was turbo'ed. i have the stock intake, just hacked it. would that still cause the little noise? it only does it sometimes, and its kinda annoying.

When I took my midpipe off and put on the stock accordian and resonator the whistle was decreased to almost nothing. You will definitely lose the growl somewhat too though.

I wish there was an accordion that fit the frankencar Midpipe...I want to put it back on but those reducers are just too ghetto for me and some flexibility is *really* nice to have.

Thanks for all the help guys. I guess I gotta either put on the stock resonator or just deal with the noise. It is nice to know that the whistle isn't anything wrong with the engine though.
