Valve above egr?

on the motor I'm putting in the valve is missing but mine has it so I swapped the housings and there is oil behind the butterfly plate that bolts to the intake, and the motor still in the car has no oil behind the plate. What does this mean? And what does this odd valve do, I've never seen somthing like this. Thanks (vg)

I don't know what valve you are talking about. Perhaps you can post a picture so that we may see what you are talking about.

its the only thing directly above the egr (where it mounts to the intake) one inch above it, you look at the egr and you can't look at it without seeing what I'm talking about, it also has vaccum lines and electronic connections. Thanks with any possible help

alrighty the hose on the air intake tube right before it clamps to the intake follow it to the round thing that bolts to a housing right above the egr. behind that housing there was oil what does this mean? my other had no oil there

it's idle control (AAC). the "butterfly" adjusts how much air gets in and around the valve. you also notice there 2 rubber collant hoses running to and from it. the valve/butterfly is temp dependent.

if there's oil behind it...it usually means you have a real dirty intake manifold and the motor didn't get PCV valve changed when it's needed.

slight bit of oily goo/carbon is ok. if there's a lot of oil in there you might want to look into the problem.
