Cryogenic Intake system

Anybody see any substantial gains from this? Waste of money? It says about a 9% increase was seen on a civic with 110hp baseline.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I wasn't sure where to post it. Seems like you all would know more about it than say the general forum people.

Thanks!

I was wondering myself about this. It looks interesting and seems like, in theory, it would work...

Seems to me that the only benefit would be if you were trying to bend some "power adder" rules to fit in a certain racing class. Otherwise, if you're going to purchase and install all that, why not just ?

Well, for one it is cheaper than nitrous...

Second, wouldn't you like to see the look on your friend's faces when you tell them that you have a cryo-intake system? They'd be like

I dunno, just wondering if anyone has seen/bought one yet....

I found this writeup:
http://www.extremev6racing.com/cry02.html

I was thinking about getting nitrous anyway, but I do wonder what both would do.

That test car got about 2-3% gain in hp. Seems like a great product to me

cryogenic...i think it's really made for COOLING the intake charge. it doesn't really burn like N2O.

Buy a Nitrous system. The turbo mustang had a 8 hp gain all that trouble for that. A 35 shot will give you much better result. I can see this system on high HP car so it help reduce temperatur but for daily driven car it seem pretty useless unless your running 15 lbs of boost.

Cheers

Yes, give that man a prize off the top shelf! Seriously, if it added 7hp for say $150 then would it be worth it?

I could see use of this product for boosted applications due to higher intake temperatures, just like the intercooler sprayers.

For example:
An intercooler cools charged air great but by the time the air reaches my intake manifold it has warmed up some (a lot really). This intake system could cool the air just before the intake manifold. This product wouldn't increase hp directly, but lowering the chances of detonation and engine failure might be worth it.

I don't see any use of this intake system on a NA application however.

It's definitely more productive to just spray N2O instead of trying to cool 4" of intake tract. There isn't enough surface area to make much of a dent on intake temperatures. It barely makes enough power to overcome the additional weight of the system.

As for the NX sprayers, they aren't as effective at making power as spraying either. Shadow got a NX N'tercooler setup on sponsorship so we're just gonna run it alongside his NOS wet kit. I'm also considering using his unused washer fluid pump to spray his intercooler w/ water and maybe freeze the entire thing between runs.

Our dyno shop, Batlground Engineering just took their intercooler sprayer off b/c it didn't produce any additional power and they're sponsored by both DEI and NX.

Interesting. Maybe for 500whp+ it has no effect. I know the street WRX's have had some success with the DEI.

Yeah, the Supra they had the kit on is doing well over 1000 whp. The IC is so big, they had 2 of the spray bars mounted.

I'm not looking for much power on the dyno, but I want to see if it helps drop the times at the track.

Just freeze your intercooler in a block of ice...

looks to me like it restricts air flow in the intake tube, dunno about this

I would think that even just a 10hp shot of nitrous would have more of a cooling effect then this cryo intake system would. With a dry nitrous kit intake tempatures are suppose to drop 30 degrees every 1ft. the nozzle is mounted away from the throttle body. So if you can mount the nozzle 3ft. from the throttle body that would result in a 90 degree tempature drop. Thank god for liquid nitrous being able to absorb heat when converting from liquid to gas.
