Intake SUCKS, Y-pipe SUCKS ! i miss my low end !!!!

god i seriously miss that amazing torque i had in the lower rpms when i was fully stock. good old memories. my baby used to spin the tires and pull hard like nothing else. but after my injen and y pipe, this thing doesnt even wanna MOVE. it feels like i have 5 passengers in the car. 1000-3500 rpm is absolutly but then it gets good after and u get pined to the seat at 4k rpm. what is a good low end mod to give me some torque (besides SC)! i've got auto tranny. and im probably not even gonna bother with a catback till i improve the low end torque.

btw do u all feel this massive low end loss with an intake + y pipe or its just me ? (something wrong with max?)

ECU upgrade will give you gains throughout the entire powerband. I don't miss anything since I got in on the TS ECU GD

Want lowend power, buy some of the lightest 15in rims you can and put some 205/50-15 tires on them. If your lucky the wheel weight would be around 30-32lbs and the car will feel like a rocket off the line. Throw in the stock airbox with resonators too.

I really don't think I lost any low end power with the addition of my y-pipe, check for the KS code maybe.

yeah I think you might have a bad KS. I don't feel any low end loss, even with my heavy 18s it feels great

it actually helps the engine to rev more freely throughout the entire rpm

Y-Pipes makes you lose no low end

But the Injen intake DOES. It sucks in hot air all day long from a stop, you should have got PR style CAI or hacked hte factory air box.

Put the stock intake on and see if that helps. If it does then you can hack it

Well, no dyno. We are talking about normal driving, not WOT. While it might make a little more power at WOT doesn't mean it makes more power under normal conditions and lower RPMS. And if you want to tell me it is not sucking in hot air from a stop, than go right ahead.

Dave B knows more than me on this topic. Maybe he will come in and tell you more.

well im not sure if its the KS or not for 3 reasons.

1) max got only 32k miles and i use 91 octane only
2) i recently got 420 mpg using 16.6 gallons of gas on highway +city driving and that averages to 26 mpg. the ks gives you bad mileage and that doesnt seem that bad to me.
3) i still get pinned to the seat at 4k rpm

also my ECU is screwed, the nut doesnt go against a stop so there is no way i can check for codes !

you think it still could be the KS ??

I say put the stock airbox back in, like everyone else has said. I have talked to numerous psople that say it yields one of the best low ends. That is why I still have my stock airbox and resonators.....I drive mostly in town and need that low end power.

I have lost nothing with my y-pipe, as far as low end power.

I have never seen a dyno of a y-pipe with a power loss at any point in the rpm band. Intakes on the other hand can make can do funky things to low rpm power.

That is why I drive a stick. If I want to be at a certin rpm where I know I make power, then I just shift gears.

I bet there is some truth to your low end loss and some of it is in your head. No offense, but it's most likely true.

A bad 02 sensor will give bad mileage. A bad KS will only give you bad performance. If you lost lowend with a Y, you have problems non-related to the Y (and intake IMHO)

not, its not just in my head, i do seriously feel a big power loss.

could it be the crappy injen and hot weather??

This must be an automatic thing because it seems like a lot of auto drivers complain about this. i Have a stillen intake, y, b and borla muffler and have felt no loss in low end that i am aware of. in fact if you look at the dyno graphs on motorvate it shows comparisons of a car with only intake, then with the y and then with the b pipe. No real low end power is lost and in fact it gains power in the lower end.

1) A y-pipe doesn't loose lowend power

2) The Injen sucks in a ton of hot air in stop and go traffic plus the piping heat soaks badly. The Injen and all other underhood intakes suffer from the same problem which is boggy performance in stop and go traffic. The intake temp sensor reads the hot incoming air and the A/F ratios are adjusted to a very rich setting so the VQ doesn't detonate.

3) The UDP doesn't improve lowend. Believe me, I use to have a UDP and it's not on my car anymore. 14.4@98mph with the UDP and 14.4@98mph without the UDP.

4) I've tried every intake setup except for the Injen. By far the best intake for around the town driving is a PR style CAI with the stock resonator that sits between the TB and MAF. It is a night and day difference with my car. I love it. In stop and go driving in 70+ degree weather, the VQ is responsive and torquey and the intake piping stays cool to the touch. The engine is always getting the coolest air possible and the most consistent performance. At the track there is no measurable difference between this CAI setup and my hybrid setup assuming the motor is cooled off. The only difference is driveability.

Yea in my auto with Bomz hybrid intake and Warpspeed Y-Pipe I lost a lot of low-end power. I think its been getting worse i probably need to clean my tb but i did notice a difference from the get-go.

that explains why my city gas mileage is so $hitty !
