Short Shifter: Who's got one?

Courtesey Nissan has one for sale, $110.
Anyone buy this one?

I read a while back that there wasn't a real decent one on the market for the Max. But the search feature is on the fritz today, so I can't follow up.

Opinions, is it even worth it?

I've read that the courtseynissan one has been known to break (the weld) while driving... I wouldn't get it.

I made a post about this a few days ago, everyone seems to love their B&M (which is what I have on the way now.) It isn't adjustable, but hell.. It's a 40% throw reduction anyways, and slightly shorter then the stock.

Can't wait to have it in and done with, with my sexy MOMO leather boot that threads onto the base MOMO shift ****

Here it is at summit:

hey tom I also have momo shift boot but I could never get it to fit correctly, let me know if you have any luck with yours. it's the universal fit that holds you up. the stock boot has a thin wire that forms a rectangle that clips undearnet the vinly trim. the momo has some elastic thing

I'm in the process of fitting mine, I came up with the idea. I've got the materials all layed out I'm just waiting for my B&M to get here so i can cut the boot to the right length.

What I plan to do is fit the boot with the new STS on, (it is circular, three pieces sewn together if you didnt look already). I'm going to thread the boot onto the shifter so it sits the way it will (direction wise) then mark it in rectangular pattern where it *should* fit. Cut off a bit below that line (enough so that you can sew it back over,) and I'm going to put small flexible plastic pieces inside the lip i sew over at each corner and one in the center of each longer side. Drill a hole through those pieces and through the sides of the shifter hole, and use small screws to secure the 6 points together. I'm hoping that the flexible plastic pieces (probably make them fairly long) will flex outwards towards naturally being straight and hold the boot against the outside rim of the hole. I'm thinking the six points will be more then sufficient, It sounds long but if you think about it the process isn't all that complicated.

I had the PaceSetter untill it snapped in half. Wow that was a great day. But now I got a B&M and I love it. Shifts are a little stiff at first, but after it breaks in, its smooth and the throws are short as hell. The only thing I dont like about the B&M is it sits closer to the console, and being short, I sometimes have to "reach" but not really.

B & M all the way...I love it. I did alot of research and drove my buddies with a Pacesetter, the B & M feels stronger and shifts nicer. It is worth the extra $$. Just my $.02

Does installing the B&M involve removing the catalytic converter to get underneath, or can the operation be done solely from inside?

The pacesetter is really nice. Installed it on a friend's car and he's very happy. It's set at about 1/2 way.

What welds, you sure you are talking about the right shifter. The courtesy looks like it's machined steel with no welds. Looks alot like the B&M.

Courtesy may have a new model, not sure. The old one did break on people 1-2 years ago.

I have a B&M which I love. Stiff for 3 weeks, now for the last 8 months BUTTER smooth. Short as heck throw too!

great vibration isolation as well compared to the pacesetter.

downside is that it sits farther forward, and 1st is harder to get into from a roll but that improves slightly as it wears in.

you can't go wrong with it!

I have a cheap OBX unit.
Ive had it for over 2 yrs with no issues.
Iv even trimmed it down some for cosmetic appeal.

I do agree that the B&M is a superior STS if you want to spend the cash.
Mine was 20.00 bucks.

How hard was it to cut it down?

Was it easy to do?
Did you have to put the car on the lift?

You need to have the car off the ground. If you read the how to you'd have known that.

Not really. It would help ALOT but you don't have to have car off the ground.
