timing belt and water pump questions

i know this has probably been asked a lot but, i have 145k miles on this car, i think the timing belt was replaced at 69k. i know its over due for one. should i be worried or can i wait till 150k. i dont feel any problems so far but i know they can go at any time. i just dont have the money to replace it right now, and the car has been taking good care of its whole life only having 2 owners the original owner a teacher at USC and me. also would it be a good idea to replace the water pump when i get the timing belt replaced?

Replace the timing belt ASAP. don't wait until it's convenient.... broken timing belts will cost $2k MINIMUM because when you break one, you get to replace the engine. even buying a junkyard engine for $400 will still cost you $2000 by the time you pay labor for install and replace everything you need to while it's off the car (timing belt, water pump, exhaust studs, etc)

Just put it on the VISA and pay it off when you can. $500 for a timing belt job is much cheaper than a new engine.

FYI, if you can do the work yourself, the parts are around $230.

replace the timing belt, water pump, cam seals, front crank seal, thermostat, and check your belts and hoses for wear/cracking.

yeah this thread kinda doesnt matter to me anymore. if you look at my other problems you can see this is in the back of my mind, but i will probably get rid of the car maxima giving me to many problems, and the tranny will probably go out soon too its and auto with 145k miles on it. this car will cost me more then its worth. so i may be saying goodbye to the maxima and these forums sorry

Matt, this is all NORMAL MAINTENANCE on a car this old. it doesn't matter WHAT car you buy, you will have to maintain it. you're pi$$ing in the wind if you think you can just buy a car under $10k and not have to work on it.

aminus21, yours should never have to be replaced. my engine has over 211k miles on it and the chains are still fine.
