Whats the difference between the regular Amsoil 5w-30 and their 5w-30 XL-7500?

 

The difference is that the XL-7500 is for up to 7500 mile drain intervals and regular 5W-30 is for up to 25k miles. The XL7500 uses a less expensive oil base stock. XL7500 is for people that don't drive but the national average of 15k per year. That way they only change their oil twice per year. Both are great oils. I use 5W-30.

 

As plummaxse states, the XL-7500 uses Group III basestocks (similar to Castrol Syntec), whereas AMSOIL ASL 5w-30 uses more expensive Group IV, PAO basestocks and a more robust additive package. The XL-5000 line of products are of very high quality and are marketed primarily for the qyuck-lube industry and for those who don't drive a lot of miles and who still want a premium product...the products are competitively priced, high quality, API Certified, and carry a drain interval consistent with the OEM recommendation (which is good for the QL industry so they keep customers coming back for more). I have used AMSOIL XL-7500 5w-20 in our Honda van for the past two years with great results...

 

That's "XL-7500", not XL-5000..sorry for the typo...
