How can you tell if it's the A/C compressor or you're out of freeon?

I was checking out another thread and I'm pretty sure I'm out of freeon, but I am just curious if there could be something up with the A/C compressor?

Compressors dont quit on you instanteneously, they go bad slowly. Same with leaking freon. But my ******* mechanic drained quite a lot of freon while 'checking pressure' so that I had to yell to make him stop. Since then I have to set it to 18° and still it is not cold enough. Life is ****, eh?

you'll see a blue cap on the upper ac line. remove the cap and remove a tad bit of pressure. if you have freon you'll know.
it's like letting the air out of a tire.
