People w/ short shifter installed

Is your SS stiff when changing gears? I drove my friend's RSX w/ short shifter and I was changing gears w/ 2 fingers and it's truly short throw. Nothing like my SS. Now it got me wondering if I can get the same type of short throw as my friend's.

I have a 95 and I got the CustomMaxima STS (same as Pacesetter). It does feel stiff sometimes going from neutral into 1st gear, and shifting into 3rd from 2nd. Not to mention the notchiness I get from the aluminum stick.

Last week I put in the STS from CourtesyParts on my friend's 00 Max. Honestly, that STS feels better than stock. It's barely stiffer than factory, but it's nothing significant. And because the stick is made of steel instead of aluminum, there's virtually no notchiness. It just glides from gear to gear. If you get one, get this one from Courtesyparts, or I'm not sure if B&M makes an STS for the 5th gen, but if they do, that one is king .

I've had the SMC and now Stillen.

SMC was stiff especially when adjusted super short.

Stillen isn't as short, throws or height, however the aluminum ball makes gear changes bolt-action like vs. rubbery with the SMC. That alone is worth the money IMO. Just wish it wasn't so damn tall.

Ahh... must be nice to be able to have a STS available for your car. Are we ever gonna see anything worthwhile for our 5.5 gens?

I have the B&M, and it feels nice. I can't compare to another brand, since this is the first STS I have ever ridden with. compared to stock, it feels way sohrt, but I already feel I need something shorter. I am satisfied with it.

the throw is cut down by about 30-40%, and has a little notchiness, but I think that goes away as you get used to it.

Does the B&M require cutting/denting the heatshield?

What would happen if you just cut the stock stick down about an inch?

to answer ABDomega:
the short shifter is not Just a shorter rod, but it also moves the pivot point of the gear lever.

no modification needed for the B&M to fit. just need to break loose the bolts on the cat and move the cat downward for access, removal of the heat shield, and its pretty much remove and replace. piece of cake.

Yup. Just what 5 spd said. My main problem that ****ed me off was actually getting the old shifter out. Well, I did this without unbolting the cat.

yeah 95blackmax installed the STS from courtesynissan parts in my 00 max bout last week. That shift feels great. its about a inch and a half or maybe a tad less from 1st to 2nd and the gears go it amazing smooth. No notchyness what so ever. If u wanna go with a good sts i \suggest the one from courtesy nissan specially since its not that expensive and nissan approves of it.
